Hey Ho Everyone!
I am Billy Concarney and this is your season wrap up for the 2014 "B" HFHL season.
We have lots of things to yak about...but first let's look at what happened in the finals shall we!

So the night started with a bit of drama. It all begins with the infamous 'Big Blue Wall". It was stuck and so the league had to deal with how do we solve this!
Some ingenuity and hard work by our team of davy engineers led to the creation of a mini wall that served it's purpose. Thanks go out to Johann "The Man" Tienhaara and Kevin "The Blade" Shute for their fast thinking and faster work! Thanks guys.

So the stage was set. the league leading Hackers were poised to do what they had to do to take home the honours. Team Captain and acting GM Dave "I'm Super" Cooper was coming into this one beat up and bruised but nothing was keeping him out of this game. Donnie "Beetle" Bailey was in search of his league leading 7th championship. The rest of the team just wanted to prove that they belonged on that cup. Backed by the regular season top keeper, Chris "The Big C" MacKinnon, they had a pretty darn good chance at repeating as league chap ions once more.

At the other end of the court were the Chill. A hodge lodge of decent players, each knowing their roll. Led by team captain and GM Keven "Son of Rob" Pittman and backed by Marty "The Party" Kane, who had not lost a game for the Chill all season...so far...

The ball dropped and both teams played a rather timid first period. Dave Cooper opened the scoring on a pass from Greg Sullivan after Chill D Man Rene "The Money Man" Aucoin stepped on the ball causing it to flatten out for just long enough to allow Greg to set Dave up. League long time veteran Kevin "I'm Bad" Haddad took a nice pass from Mark "The Captain" Duggan to even it up at one. So at the end of the first, it was all even 1-1.

The second period marked a change in temperature...a cold front was passing through and it was in the form of a Chill! The Chill led once again by the veteran "I'm Bad" Haddad scored 4 unanswered goals with Haddad scoring two and adding two assists.
Despite out shooting the Chill by a 20 to 12 margin, the Hackers could not solve put one past Kane although there were a few close calls. So after the second the Chill held the lead at 5-1.

The third period started with the Hackers fielding all of their big guns. Cooper, Bailey, Milligan and Coolen lined up to take the draw. It was a great call by the coaching staff as they scored first as Donny "Beetle" Bailey fought hard for the ball in front of Kane and then made a beautiful play to slide it into the far corner. This narrowed the gap and gave the Hackers some life.
At the other end, Chris "The Big C" MacKinnon would do all he could to keep his teams hopes alive. He made a couple of huge glove saves...and one was outstretched from post to post to rob Mark Duggan of a sure goal. But the Chill managed to score another goal to extend their lead to 3 once more. Again, Kevin "I'm Bad" Haddad answered the call on a feed from Corey "Heart" McGuigan.
A late surge from the Hackers saw another guy who is no stinger to the score sheet as Gill "The Legned" Mombourquette scored two back to back o feeds from Dave Cooper and Gord Martell. But time was not on their side tonight. With only 45 seconds left long time D man Matt "The Punk" Monk made some shifty moves to eat the remaining time up.

This was a great game and a good way to wrap the season up. The Chill had an all around effort on the back end, the front ended and everything in between.
The Hackers put forward a great effort and showed why GM Dave "I'm Super" Cooper is one of the best GMs in the history of the league.
So when it's all said and done... The Chill are the 2014 "B" Season Champions!
Great job guys.

The ESM player of the game this week was Marty "the Party" Kane. Once again we would like to thank Rod and the staff at Eastside Mario's in Bayer's Lake for their support of the HFHL. We strongly encourage each of you to support this business who supports us. Thanks ESM!

Sop after another successful season, we want to take a moment to recognize the volunteers who set up, tear down and ref, time keep and just help out when needed. Without you guys, we would not be able to function as we do.
We also want to thank everyone who played this season. It was a great season without any foolishness which again gives us the great distinction of being one of the most enjoyable leagues to play in here in HRM.

I also wanted to note the league winners in the scoring category and goal tending category as well as the season winner of the ESM Player of the Week Honours.
So the top scorer with a total of 43 points is none other than Adam "I'm Gellin" Schellenberg. great job...again...Adam!
the league leader in the goaltending department goes to Chris "The Big C" MacKinnon, who sported an average of 5.25 and an .882 save percentage. Way to go Chris!
And last but not least, this season's ESM Player of the Week Three Star award goes to ....drum roll please...
Chris "The Big C" MacKinnon! You don't get anything for this...but you have enjoyed the most food at ESM if you used those gift cards!

So there you have it guys and gals. the end of the 2014 "B" Season has come and now we wait for the next chapter in the history of the HFHL...seaon 2015 "A".
If you haven't signed up please do so.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and here's hoping everyone has a safe and Happy Holiday season.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Be well folks!
