Halifax Floor Hockey LeagueThis is Billy Concarney saying welcome to the week 9 recap. Sorry for the delay, but had a family funeral to deal with and threw a wrench into things.
So enough excuses...let's get going on this!
Hackers vs Slayers
The Slayers thought maybe they had a chance when they showed up and saw a smaller bench on the other side. Well the ball got dropped and they learned that two things never change with the Hackers Chris "I'm Steady" MacKinnon and Dave "I'm Super" Cooper!
MacKinnon played his best game of the year. He faced 57 shots and turned aside 53...proving that he is the guys in the league to carry the torch! Cooper, had a meagre 3 tallies and 3 helpers, but it was enough to lift his team past the Slayers. The Salyers were led by no one in particular as their scoring was spread out.
Hackers take this one 9-4
Fire Vs Titans
Well this game was a burner. Just when you thought it was put away, the Titans came storming back to make a game of it.
Neither of the keepers played their best games, but they still made some sweet saves in this one. The real story was Braden "My Hair" Urquhart. Man what a game he had. He scored 7 goals in this one. But oddly enough...no helpers...hmmmm.
We asked Fire captain Adam "I'm Gellin'" Schellenberg what he thought about Barden's offensive night. In a high but clear voice he replied "Here piggy piggy piggy!"
Also worth while to note that Louis "No Skill" Bill had a great game picking up 5 assists and scoring a goal to boot! Way to go Louis! The Titans were led by league rookie Sean "Of The Dawn" Fitzgerald. He scored 4 goals and added one helper. The Fire took this one by a score of 11-9
Sabres vs Bulldogs
So in a battle of the basement dwellers, this was looking like it would be a sleeper...but far from it. It was a great game fought hard and many great goals and saves as well.
The Sabres hacked and slashed their way through this one led by Chad "I'm Bad" Banks who scored 5 goals and added two helpers. The Bulldogs were led by Wade "Low Paid" Mullen who scored three goals for his first ever league hat trick.
The Sabres took this one 12-7
Chill vs Lynx
This one was a great game. Both teams led by their captains, put forward a huge effort that ended all square.
Lynx rookie captain Jon "juan" Darnbrough scored every single one of his teams goals. Imagine that! Keven "The Toque" Pittman scored 3 goals and assisted on the last one that gave his team a tie.
Not one penalty. Jason "Boom Boom" Boudreau made the save of the season when Pittman streaked in on a breakaway and pulled huge move, but Jason stuck with him and made an unbelievable glove save. One for the highlight reels for sure!
This one finished in a 5-5 tie.
So that is it for now.
Let's take a brief look at the play off picture going into week 10.
The Hackers lead the league with 14 pts. They face off against the Sabres, who unless they pull a rabbit out of the _ _ _...ha,ha, I was thinking hat, they will clinch the top spot and the Sabres will finish at the bottom of the pile.
The Fire are facing off against the Lynx. The Fire currently have 13 pts and will not be a shoe in for a win against the Lynx. The Lynx beat the Hackers a couple of weeks back and are more than able to pull off this upset. the Lynx sit in 6th spot right now.
The Chill will be Kaneless this week as they finish the season against the Titans. The Titans can move into 3rd spot if the stars align...but it is a long shot. The Chill are in third right now.
The Slayers finish their season off against the Bulldogs. Again, the Bulldogs are not a team to take lightly. If Swaine gets in his groove, then the Slayers will have a hard time. The Slayers are currently in 4th and and the dogs are in 7th.
So realistically, the play off pairings are settled as:
Sabres vs Hackers
Bulldogs vs Fire
The rest is a crap shoot and I don't have a gun or crap!
So that is how it looks from here folks. This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember...
Make sure you tell the ones you love just how much they mean to you...you never know when it will be your last chance!
Be well folks
