Oh What a Night! week 1 recap

September 10, 2014
hello boys, girls and everything in between!
This is Billy Concarney here and i am all set to bring you the low down, the dirty, the scoop and that's just what happens after you take the Bulldogs for a walk!
Enough of this yakkin'...let's get down to business.
If this week is any indication, we are in of quite a good season.
No blow outs or blow ups...just some good close games being played to see who was going to be the dominate male in each division...but guess what girls...there ain't none...

So let's start with the battle of S's...yes and most of them are, but I am talking about the Slayers and the Sabres.
The Slayers were missing two key players in Shanti "Peace" Dogra and Alex "The Blustery" Gale. This was also the night when new comer goalie Bobby "Bob" Zwicker made his debut in nets. For the Sabres, league long time captain Rob "Bob" Pittman was happy with the team he had put together. When we asked him he said "I am happy with the team I have put together".
Anyhow, this one was back and forth and to and fro, but when it was all said and done, the last shot decided the game.
Er, well i wasn't there...but it makes for good news though right?
Slayers win this one 7-6.

Next up is the mighty Titans against the cunning Lynx. The titans wanted to make a statement early...but no such thing. The Lynx, led by rookie captain Jon "I don't Give A" Darnbrough, were eager to have a great start to the season.
Well, this was mother close game and nothing big to report here. The game ended in an 8-6 victory for the Titans. Craig "the Gargoyle" Burgoyne faced 50 shots. New comer Gary McAvoy faced 38. I don't know what else to say...so maybe I won't say anything...more...at this time...I mean right now...

Now we will head over to the Big floor and see what has happened between the raining champions...yes, it was raining champions...I think that is a mushroom in french no? This was a battle between Dave "super" Cooper and the Hackers vs Adam "Son of Laura" Secord (Sounds kind of menacing eh?) and the Bulldogs
This was another close one. The Hackers were heavy favourites but the Bulldogs had other plans. They were going to work the floor and try and exploit the weakness in the Hackers game. Now most of you would automatically think, "That has to be Chris "The Guy Who Has No Nickname" MacKinnon, but not this time ;-) Ok, there was no weakness, but once again, it sounded good for a little bit right...and if there was one it would have been that MacKinnon fellow.
Ok, so Dave "Super" Cooper wasted no time getting things going. He scored his teams first 4 goals, and what does that say? He is nothing but a hog! This was a 7-6 finish with the Hackers coming out on top.
We asked Adam "Son of Laura" Secord what his thoughts were. "Well, we lost, but I still have access to the best ice-cream at Mic Mac Mall"

Ok, last game coming up. This was the first meeting of the season for the Fire and the Chill. Ok, well this was the first game of the season too, but who's counting!
Everyone knows the Fire power that comes from the dynamic duo, Adam "I'm Gellin" Schellenberg and Braden "My Hair" Urqhart...but let's not forget that Keven "Son of Rob" Pittman picked a team of whiners...I mean winners. Loaded talent the likes of Matt "Shut It" Monk, Marty "You Suck" Kane and Corey "Hart" McGuigan. There was a chance that if nothing else someone was going to wear sun glasses at night...and this time it was Matty! (Oops)
This one came down to the wire. The Fire pulled their goalie late in the third down one, and for some strange reason, the guy playing that side of the court, not naming names (But see sun glasses comment for hint) ran away. I think someone down the other ended started singing that annoying song about building a snow man and then that was all it took...
That left Adam "I Got Really Really Lucky Beating Kane On That Shot" Schellenberg standing all by his lonesome with what, maybe 15 seconds left??? Oh well a ties is better than a loss! this one ended up 7-7.

This weeks Eastside Mario's Player of the Week is none other than Craig "The Gargoyle" Burgoyne! Congrats Craig and thanks go out to ESM in Bayers Lake for your continued support of our league. Let's get out and support them right back...Craig will take you!

So there you have it folks. week one is down and out, nothing clear.we had one two goal game, two one goal games and a tie.So who is the favourite? Too early to tell, but I am thinking it is one of those S's. You know what I mean wink wink.

Well I am Billy Concarney saying so long and remember to ask you significant other..."So if a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, am I still wrong?"
Bye for now folks and be well!!
