You're A Turkey! Week 5 Recap

October 15, 2014
Well well well...if it isn't fancy pants Mr Concarney. Returning from a bit of a vacation, or as we like to call it in the newsroom a suspension!
Hey ho folks! This is one Billius Concarneus, returning from studies in the ancient greek text...just in case we ever go live broadcast over in the land of salads and feta!

So first of all lets take a quick peek at who have been named our Eastside Mario's Players of the weeks over the past few.
Week one saw Craig "The Gargoyle" Burgoyne get the honours. Week 2, it was Adam "I'm Gellin'" Schellenberg, week 3 some no name brand goalie named Chris "The Fish" MacKinnon. Week 4 was ...blah blah blah...MacKinnon again.
We want to thank ESM Bayers Lake for sponsoring our weekly award. If you haven't gotten your gift coupon, please see Commish Marty "The Party" Kane.

So enough of this babble..let's see what happened this week.

First up let's see what went o in the Slayer/Lynx game.
The Slayers were coming off of a loss to the Chill and were intent on gaining their winning form. The Lynx, who also came off a loss, had their captain Back in J.D. "Mac and Cheese" Darnbrough.
These guys squared off and turned out that even though the Slayers were missing arguably their two best offensive...well I find them offensive, players in Alex "The Mighty" Gale and Dave "I Like To Google" MacDougall, the tandem of Shanti "Shack by the Sea" Dogra and Norm "The loud Mouth" Snook connected for a total of 8 goals. Norm had 4 goals and 2 helpers, while Shanti fired for 4 of his own.
The Lynx, who have been without their two best D men, were led by Captain Darnbrough who had a hat trick and two helpers.
Slayers win this one 10-7

The next game on our list is between the Chill and the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs have been on a roll backed by the consistent play of net minder Trevor "The Pain" Swaine. The Chill have not lost a game with their stellar feller net minder Marty" The Party" Kane.  So the ball dropped and things were pretty even until the second when Mark "The Spark" Duggan took control and scored a natural hat trick. The Bulldogs just couldn't get past this and ended up losing by a score of 10-6. Worth while to note that league veteran Jeff "the Lost" Sheppard tagged Kane for three..count em' three goals. And laughed after each one! Loudly! Also worth while to note that this past week league executive Sheldon "O'My" O'Brien was awarded the score keepers of america's coveted "I Can Write The Smallest" Award. The guy entering the stats wants to extend a special congrats to Shelly for this prestigious award.

Our third game was what we would call a "game of the week" if we had such a thing. It pitted the two undefeated teams against each other in the Hackers and the Fire. Dave "Super" Cooper orchestrated one of the best moves the league has ever seen by a GM by slipping the other guys STUPID pills while he drafted Adam Schellenberg and Braden Urquhart last season...enroute to an undefeated season! This game pitted the former team mates named against one another and we knew someone was going to get beat...
This one was close as well, until the third. Dave "I'm Super" Cooper scored his own natural hayrick and led his team to a win over the smouldering Fire. This makes the Hackers undefeated still and may just see this season crown Dave as the best GM the league has ever seen.
the Hackers won this one 8-5

So the last game of the week was between the Mighty Titans (pronounced tea-tones) and the Sabres...( pronounced Say-Burs)
This was a great game. Larry "The Missing" harris returned from a short trip somewhere and immediately made his mark, scoring a goal, assisting on one and even taking a penalty. We call that a Gordo Martell Hat Trick.
Nothing spectacular to report in this one. The Titans prevailed in this one 7-5.

Now, drum roll please...league rookie Bobby "The Picker" Zwicker scored this weeks honours for ESM Player of the week Bobby, who plays for the Slayers, faced 55 shots this week. Good job Bob! Ha!

So that's how it looked from here guys and gals. Tune in next week as we see whether the Hackers will be able to continue their winning ways...
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember...oops...I forgot!
Be well folks
