Halifax Floor Hockey LeagueGame one saw a match up between the league's #1 team, the Hackers and the #4 finisher Slayers.
The Slayers were without their scoring juggernaut Norm "Captain Hook" Snook, so they were in a bad way to begin with.
The Hackers took the lead early in the first and held a 3-1 lead after one. Each team added one in the second and so into the third the Hackers go with a 2 goal lead.
The Slayers had played a great game all night long and the third would be no different. The Slayers opened the scoring in the third with a goal by league rookie Dave MacDougall on a sweet pass from Johann "The Terrible" Tienhaara.
Bobby "there Bomb" Zwicker was outstanding in the crease...which is where all goalies stand during the game. But actually he made some HUGE saves in the second and third. It was his best game of the year.
At the Other end of the floor was Chris "The Big C" MacKinnon. He played his usual solid game.
Unfortunately due to a funny bounce and misplay in their own zone, the Slayers fell behind by two late in the game and that was just too much for them to over come.
This was a real game with a real score.
The Hackers advance to the finals with a 6-4 win over the Slayers.
Great season to the Slayers...
Game two saw the second and third place match ups. This one was between the Fire, the second place finishers, and the Chill, who were a close third.
The Chill held the edge in regular season play with a tie and a win in their first two meetings. But this was different, the play off brothers , Schellenberg and Urquhart had Fire in their eyes...
"I'm Gellin'" Schellenberg opened the scoring with the first and only goal of the 1st period.
The second came and again the Fire struck but the Chill quickly answered scoring a power play goal with the Fire being down two men. Still in the second and with the Chill on the power play, Schellenberg picked off a pass and streaked in on a breakaway and scored glove side on kane giving his boys a two goal lead. The Monk's teamed up with roy feeding Matt and the Chill found themselves down by one at the end of the 2nd.
The third period was all Chill. They scored 4 unanswered goals and held the Fire off the game sheet. This was a great team effort and at the end of it all the Chill topped the Fire by a score of 6-3.
So, there you have it...The Old Man and the "C" will face one another in the finals as the Hackers and Chill face off at the Stad Arena next Monday night.
This will be a good game for sure. these teams faced each other once during the regular season and the Chill came out on top. The Hackers are looking to avenge the loss and prove to everyone that they are the number one team this season for a reason...

The ESM Player of the Week honours go to Chis "The Big C" MacKinnon. he faced 39 shots and gave up 4. Great job Chris.
