Alex Yeadon is this weeks HFHL Player of the Week

Who turned the lights out!?

January 18, 2011
Hey folks. This is Billy Concarney here with our most recent news items here in the HFHL.

Last night, Monday the 17th, was to be the final week of pre-season. The time when all of the captains get to check out the "new guys"and see what the holiday break has done to the veterans of the league. Well, there were some startling events that sort of wrecked this opportunity. Upon arriving at the Stad Gym Arena Complex, players were literally shocked to find out the there was no power. One stinking rotten block of the base was without power and yes, it had to be at the gym. Some of the guys were trapped inside for a period of time, but managed to be released unscathed.
In an unrelated event, long time "D" man and Captain of the Lynx, Matt Monk was picked by the military police along with who one bystander described as "Kid Rock" and some "band mates" for throwing rocks at a transformer outside of the local base watering whole. They were released with out charge...get it charge.
When asked why he was doing this Matt said "Sparks...I like sparks"

As a result of all of this taking place, the league has decided to have one more week of pre-season on the 24th and this means the new start date for the league will be January 31st. So a reminder to all of you rookies out there. Make sure you get out to the pick up so that the captains can see who you all are.
This also postpones the draft, or at least I assume, until next week as well. The draft order will be decided next Monday when league rep Richard Wanamaker will utilize the long respected and highly scientific method of selecting who will draft in what order. This process is very complicated and requires the utmost precision to carry out. Success will rest solely on the fingertips of each captain as this process has the need for that let's say, a certain touch, that only some possess. Some captains have been drafting for years and have never seen the first pick...but we won't mention any names right Rob? Others would rather not get the first pick as it means that team selection is so crucial and there are only a few who seem to have that down.

We asked one captain how he felt about the process.
"Well it is kind of nerve wracking to say the least. I mean, the guy comes along with the hat, you have to reach up into the air and take a piece of paper out and then comes the time to unfold it, which seams like hours, and there is the number just looking you right in the face. It could be like winning the lotto max draw, or like watching your friend win when you know he has no intention of sharing. I hate guys like that eh. I mean, I'm their friend right? So why not spread that joy around you know. Man that makes me ticked!...oh, sorry, I got a bit carried away. But there you go, that's what the pressure of the draft can do to a guy. It's not easy being a captain. The easy part is choosing your players, the hard part is reaching into the hat."

Ok, then...
Well that's all for now folks, stay tuned for more news and remember, pick up next week at 8:30 in both the Small Floor Arena and Big Floor Stadium.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember, it takes a big man to cry, but it takes an even bigger man to laugh at that guy crying.
Be well guys!
