The Play off match up are set...

December 2, 2010
Hi everyone and welcome to another week of HFHL news.
I'm Billy Concarney and these are the latest stories.
The match ups are set for the 2010B play offs and this proves to be a pretty wide open race going into it as a result of some crafty maneuvers by the team captains near the end of the year...did we discuss that yet? Oh yea, we did didn't we.

8:30 on the big floor: Chill (white) vs. Sabres (dark)

8:30 on the small floor: Titans (white) vs. Hackers (dark)

9:30 on the big floor: Slayers (white) vs. Lynx (dark)

9:30 on the small floor: Bulldogs (white) vs. Fire (dark)

Some of the early speculators give the edge to the Mighty Titans who have a relentless attack backed by some great goaltending. It will be tough to oust these guys, but it only takes one game to do it so I guess anythings possible.

Another team that could prove to be a dark horse in all of this is the Bull Dogs. They have a couple of financial issues to address, but once this is done, it could pave the way to a repeat of their championship winning ways of last year. backed by the great goatending of Tom "I'm Good For A" Wynn and the minipulation of the league by crafty GM/Captain Gill "The Magnificent" Mombo, this team will be a force as well.

The Hackers are an improved team with the changes that have taken place in recent weeks. The acquisition of Roger "The Ninja?" Keating has given the guys up front an added lift and his ability to hustle has spread like wild fire through out the team. Their weakness, and it pains me to say this old friend, is in the net. Dave "the Save" Blandford is stepping up for the team big time by dawning his stinky equipment and jumping in between the pipes, but when you are talking playoffs, goal tending is a corner stone to your success as a team. He is using a "magic stick" provided him by the bestest goalie ever to play a game in this coveted league, a name we will keep secret for the sake of unworthy ears...shhhh....

The Slayers, who finished atop of the Blommers Division are strong. They have picked up a great goalie in Joey Gray and will be a force to reckon with as a result. They have the fire power, but now they have some legit goaltending. We asked captain peter "The heater" Eddy what he thought.
He said, "WE have the fire power, but now we have some legit goaltending." I couldn't have put it better myself Peter!

The Sabres, the Fire and the Lynx would each have to pull off several miracles, three to be exact, in order to win it all this year, but hey, anything is possible and if you take one game at a time, things can happen. One thing you can be sure of, there will be at least one upset in the first and or second round by one of these teams.

This leaves us with the Chill. Things are pretty cold at the top this year as the Chill posted a rare no loss season, something that hasn't been done for 12 seasons since the Lynx accomplished that feat in 2004A. Chill goalie Marty "Candy" Kane was also a part of that team as well. Maybe some things do get better with age??
We asked kane aboput the season.
"Well, you know it has been 12 seasons since this has been done. I think we won it all back then. This year will be harder to do as the league had some player drop outs and the captains took liberties and we have seen the other teams get much much better. That being said, there is one common denominator in the 2004A season and this season. Whine and Cheese. We've seen lots of both this year. I just have this to say.."A long December and there's reason to believe, maybe this year will be better than the last."

Billy's picks for the first rounds are...drum role please...

Chill over the Sabres...but everyone hold your breath!
Titans beat the Hackers with ease. Sorry "The Save"
Lynx shock the Slayers No one wants to take the Lynx lightly. If "Teddy" plays his game, they have a great chance
Bulldogs beat the Fire, Dogs are too deep right now.

One last note. the refs have been instructed to tighten up the calls going in to the playoffs. this comes as a result of some goofy stuff. One thing to remember is if you throw your stick, it is an automatic penalty shot. No questions asked. This has been explained to everyone who is reffing so you know who you are...
Anyhow, that's it for now and remember, a clear conscience is usually a sign of a bad memory.

This is Billy Concarney saying so long and be well!
