Chill Freeze The Titans To Win It All!

Chill Victorious
It was a cold day at the Stad Plex this past Monday as the Chill hoped they could continue to ride the undefeated wave for one more round. It was a daunting task for the self proclaimed "band of misfits" who were primarily made up of grunt working in the trenches kind of guys who came to play hard every game this year.
Their opponents this night would be the Mighty Titans. A team loaded with talent, speed and big arms. A team that many picked to win the whole thing after they picked up Brett "The Jet" Kiley and seemed to overwhelm every team they played with their great ball movement and offensive attack.

It's about 9:20 right now and there are several questions to be answered. After the huge pow-wow last week between the Titans management and the rest of the league on whether they would be able to field a team, the first question was how many players would they have? The second question was the status of Chill keeper Marty "Candy" Kane who just drove 10 hours that day to get back home to play only to show up sick as a dog and craving some fine Sobey's chicken wings.
The curtain is lowered, the nest are in place. The doors open and the two goalies, Jason Boudreau and Marty Kane walk to their nets. The Chill have seven guys. To everyone's surprise, so do the Titans! What was all the stuff about last week? I guess the league made the right decision after all.

The refs for tonight's game were Richard Wanamaker and Rob Tyrrell. Time keeper was Johann Tienhaara.
The ball was dropped and the play began.
The Titans had their usual game plan of trying to control the play. All season long they would control the play and be patient and let the other teams chase the ball around. Why change what has worked right? The only problem this time was the Chill were just too fast.

They were in the way. The "D" were positioned just right every time. Smothering the Titans forwards like cold maple syrup on Aunt Jemima's pancakes, like Mom's thick gravy over pasty mashed potatoes, well like...you get the picture!

The Chill struck first scoring the only goal of the period when Chill captain Adam Cowie took a feed from long time veteran Toooonnnyyyy Joooooyyyyccccccee and shoveled it past a sprawling Jason Boudreau. Boudreau faced 11 shots in the first allowing just one while Kane answered one of the questions by stopping all 12 of his shots in the first.
The second period saw the Chill take control. Captain Adam Cowie scored three more goals fed from either Tony Joyce or Mike MacInnis. Boudreau faced a total of 13 shots in the second while Kane continued to shut the Titans down with 15 more stops in the second.

In the third, the Titans finally got on the board but not because they scored a goal. In a rare weak moment, key Chill "D" man, Peter "Fare The Well Love" Rankin inadvertently poked the ball past his keeper to get the Titans on the board. This sparked the Titans into a flurry as they found some new life and were buzzing all over the place like them Killer bees from previous stories. This was short lived though as a key contributor for the Chill all season long, Mike MacInnis, scored a beauty at the side of the net from guess who, no not Mike Cogdon or Peter Eddy, from Adam Cowie. The Titans finally beat Kane in the third when Barry Coolen banked one off the post on the blocker side to which Peter Rankin was seen jumping for joy and wiping his brow in relief.

Despite allowing 7 goals in this one Boudreau played a great game for his team but they just were caught chasing the ball around too many times which left Boudreau at the mercy of the Chill forwards, who made few if any mistakes.
The bottom line in this one was that then Chill completely dominated at every position in this game. Arguably their best game of the year and at the right time leaving now doubt that despite the changes which took place with other teams during the course of the year, that the Chill are the best team in 2010B and one of the best teams to be put together in this league. It's also only the second undefeated season ever recorded in the league.

Hats off to the Titans as they were a great team all year as well. they deserved to be in the finals and posted a near perfect season as well.

Difference makers in this game were clearly Adam Cowie, and everyone else on the "Misfits".
Congrats boys! You deserved this one!

Well that's all from this reporter folks. This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember,  funny thing about this but when you stop believing in Santa Claus, that's when he stops coming!
