Tony Joyce set the early tone for the Chill, scoring two quick goals to open the game. It was a sign of things to come, in a wide-open game that feature goal-scoring chances galore. In fact there were 13 goals scored in the first period alone. Coming into the game, the Sabres had only totaled six goals in two games. The Sabres matched that total in the first period, as the stanza ended with the Chill leading 7-6.

The frenetic pace slowed marginally in the second period, as the teams continued to trade goals. Chill forward Jason Royal, led all second period scorers with four goals, but it was a highlight-reel goal from Sabre David Watson that deadlocked the game at 11 entering the final period.

The Chill, who had two fewer subs than the Sabres, seemed to tire in the third period, despite scoring the first two goals to take a 13-11 lead. It was all Sabres after that, as they scored the game's final 7 goals to win 18-13. Watson was the Sabres' leading point getter with 7, while Dennis Drapeau and Chad Griffin both has 4 goals apiece. Chill forward Tony Joyce assumed the title of league scoring leader with his 4 goal, 4 assist performance. His linemate, Jason Royal, was named the game's first-star for the second consecutive game, as a result of his 7 goal showing.
