Slayers Coming Back to Life

November 14, 2001
After losing last week to the Hackers in what many were calling the game of the year, the Sunnydale Slayers have finally notched their first win of the season. The Slayers broke through over the stuggling Lynx 8-7 in another thriller.

Shawn Currie led all Slayers with three goals and one assist, while Kenzie Royal and Steve Schumph added two apiece.

The Slayers have been rejuvenated since the return of captain and goalie Paul Chui, whose solid play has kept the Slayers close in each game.

The Lynx, who were missing Craig Mercer and Blaise MacPhee from their lineup, were surprisingly led by defenseman Mike MacDonald's one goal and three assists. The three assists were a single-game record for the normally low-scoring MacDonald. "With Blaise and Craig out of the line-up, I knew I had to step up," said MacDonald. "Sometimes I feel like I have to carry the entire team on my shoulders," admitted Mike, "it can be quite a burden -- even for a superstar like myself."
