After last season's remarkable championship victory, the Sabres seemed poised to repeat as champs in 2001B. Even after their shaky debut, a 11-8 loss to the Lynx, experts were suggesting it was only a matter of time before the Sabres got their act together.

However after the Sabres were shellacked 22-4 by the Chill last night, nobody is thinking repeat.

Rob Tyrell led the onslaught with 11 points, including 7 goals. Glen Gerard made an auspicious debut scoring 5 goals and 3 assists in his first ever FHL game.

Sabres goaltender Chris McMaster faced 73 shots, the 4th highest shot total in league history. Entering the game, McMaster had never allowed more than 13 goals in any of his 30 previous starts.

The much anticipated return of Sabers superstar Dave MacKenzie was not to be, as MacKenzie was suspiciously absent when team-chauffeur Jason Royal arrvied to pick him up. With MacKenzie returning to Boston indefinitely, and Don Abbott missing in action, the Sabres will be concerning themselves with winning a game, nevermind starting a dynasty.
