First up Chill vs Titans
The Titans surprised no one in this but the Chill sort of surprised everyone and maybe even themselves.
They were down from the get top and came back to within a goal twice, but kept imploding as i.e. away after give away resulted in goal after goal.
New guy Chris Sampson takes the star honours this week grabbing 5 goals and 2 assists.
That earns him the Eastside Mario's Player of the Week award. Way to go Chris...you jackass! ;-)
Titans move on after beating the chill 11-6
Next up was the Bulldogs and the Hackers. the only surprise in this game was the score!. Both goalies kept it to a respectable total as the Hackers bested the Dogs by a score of 4-2. Big guy in this game was Paul Highmore, who gave his team a great chance to win. But the Hackers play such a stifling game in their own end that it's hard to get anything going. Any goalie's dream team for sure.
Our next game saw the Fire get burned by the Sabres, but boy did they give er' a go!
Short manned made no difference for Ian Arseneau, who grabbed 6 goals in a losing effort...off of 6 passes from Matt Reed.
The Sabres are just too much for most teams in the league, and with guys like Mark Duggan who tallied 3 goals and 2 helpers stepping up to the plate, these guys have to be the favs for winning it all.
They win this game by a score of 10-6.
Koodos to the Fire for hanging in as long as they did!
Lats game of the night was what should have been the closest affair, when the Lynx faced off against the Slayers.
It was even for the first part of the first period...but the Sl;ayers poured it on and hit the high gear scoring 10 goals in the first two periods while the Lynx could only muster 1.
The third saw the Lynx come out with two quick ones but too little too late.
Kyle Bayers saved his good stuff for the playoffs scoring 5 goals and adding a helper and mention goes to Eric Eisner who score 4 goals and added a helper.
Slayers take this one by a score of 11-4
so thats the first round down.
The second round match ups are pretty potent as the Sabres will face off against the Titans and the Hackers will face the Slayers.
Both of these games could go either way and may come down to goaltending at the end of it all.
Although the edge has to go to the sabres and the Hackers, their opponents are good enough to knock them off and so we could see an upset or maybe even two in the semis.
Well thats how it looked from the cage last Monday.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and be well folks!
