Our first game saw the Hackers square off against the Fire. Both teams coming off of a disappointing loss last week and looking to turn the ship around.
We want to give props to Adam Larder and Tom Wynn who jumped in tonight to fill in for a couple of absent keepers. Thanks for saving everyone's keisters boys!
The scoring started quickly when Tom Griffiths took a feed from Paul Chang and made no mistake to give the Hackers the early lead. Fire sophomore player Aaron "ugly hat" Brown tied things up when he beat larder off a pass from league veteran Rob "The Rhyno" Tyrrell. But Dave "Super" Cooper took it back grabbing his first goal of the game to take a 2-1 lead into the second.
The second period saw 3 goals scored, all by the Fire. Snook, Tyrrell and then Iain guy...what an Areseneau! The Fire take a 4-3 lead into the third.
The 3rd saw 4 goals scored...unfortunately for the Fire, they were all by the Hackers. Greg Schrader scored two, and Cooper and Chang added one each. Nothing too much exciting so short and sweet for this game. Notables for the Hackers in this game were Dave Cooper with 2 goals and an assist, Greg Schrader with 2 goals and for the Fire Norm Snook grabbed a goal and a helper.
Hackers take this 7-4
Our next game of the evening saw the Bulldogs taking on the Chill. The chill are coming off a late game collapse in their first loss of the season last week, while the Dogs have been struggling to find their way so far.
This one was all Chill as the froze the Dogs right from the get go.
The first period saw the Chill come out fast as Canning notched two goals early off of feeds from Brill and DeAdder. Jarret Erb came in after Kane made three saves on his brother Shane, to flip a loose ball into an open net to stay within one, but Rene "Storage Wars" Aucoin roofed a snap shot past Highmore when Louis "The Krill"Brill found him open in the slot. The Chill take a 3-1 lead into the second.
The second period saw the Bull Dogs grab a lucky goal when Keven "I'm Bad" Haddad rang a shot off the cross bar, but it wen right to Gordon "The warden" Martell who buried it into the open net while yelling "Take that Candy Kane!". This fired up the Chill and they answered back with three more goals from Colin "Pedawa" Waugh (lame I know...I will figure something out by seasons end), Mike "the Cartoonist" DeAdder and Evan "Tin" Canning. Score was 6-2 going into the third.
The third saw more of the same, but after a couple of lucky bounces, the Dogs had picked up the first two goals of the period and had come with in two. Goals by Gord "The Pain" Caines, and Shane "The Herb" Erb.
But the Chill came roaring back with 4 unanswered goals. Doug "The Pug" Forrest grabbed two in this period and lone wolves Rene Aucoin and John "I'm Steady" Kedy, sealed the deal and the Chill take this one by a score of 10-4. Notable were Canning with a hat trick and two helpers, Rene Aucoin with 2 goals and an assist and doug Forrest who sported the same.
The only sign of life on the Dogs side was Shane Erb who recorded a goal and an assist.
Dogs have some figuring out to do.
Our third game of the evening was a rather subdued, low scoring affair...NOT!
Wow...we almost ran out of room on the game sheet!
This was a contest featuring the speedy Slayers and the wise Lynx. The lynx were up against it this week being down 3 players while the Slayers had a full bench.
Let's see how this one went.
Scoring opened with Eric "Big Daddy" Eisener scoring all by his lonesome. But Roy Monk fired back off a feed from Momborquette to tie it up. The Slayers took the lead back when Eisener scored his second off a feed from Kyle "the player" Bayers. Slayers up 2-1 after the first.
Second period, oh my, flood gates open. there were 8 goals scored in this period. The Slayers came out firing on al cylinders as they nabbed the first three goals of the period. Bayers grabbed two of those from JD and JD grabbed the third from his better side Jenna "The Boss" Briggs (dont forget that JD ;-)
The Lynx grabbed the next goals when Roy "the punk" Monk ripped a slapper off a feed from Mombo. JD adhered back with his second from Bayers, but the Lynx weren't giving up. James Griffin Allwood from Monk, Mombo from Monk, Gelinas, Gelinas from Griffin Allwood and this baby was tied alllllll up. 6-6
the third saw 8 more goals scored. Told you this was hot baby!
The Third started with Gelinas scoring his third in a row for a hat trick au naturel, but Bayers fired the next two from JD and Combdon to take the lead back and add one more from JD and the lead is back to two for the Slayers. But Griffin-Allwood and Gelinas notched the next two to even it up. What a barn burner.
Bayers scored his 5th goal of the game when JD slid a pass through the D for a tap in. This one was all over...but did I say that too soon? You betcha! Gelinas grabbed his 5th of the game as well when he tied things all up from Monk.
And thats all she wrote...this one ended up 10-10. Tom Wynn faced a mountain of plastic in 68 shots.
But the star of this game was Kyle "The Player" Bayers who grabbed 5 goals and 3 assists which earned him this weeks Eastside Mario's Player of The week honours. Good job Kyle!
Last game of the night earned this week's headlines...and not for good reasons either.
The undefeated Sabres were facing off against the mighty Titans in the last game of the night.
The game started out easy enough, at least for the sabres, who scored all 5 goals in the period. Alex Gale from keven Pittman, Mark Duggan from keven Pittman, Alex unassisted (hog), new guy JD Crossley from Alex Gale (he listened)
and Matt Monk unassisted (another hog). Didn't look good for the Titans.
The second started out with the Sabres adding to their lead and at this point you had to think it was insurmountable being down 6 goals to zip so early in the game. But Woody Gouthro grabbed a goal from a pass from trevor Mcguigan to get his team on the board. But The Gale's was a blowin' and Alex scored yet another goal for the Sabres. Tony Joyce, Trevor McGuigan and Kevin Shute all tallied for the titans and maybe there was some magic in that old star hat they found, for when they placed it on his head...they turned into a clown! and that leads us into the third period.
Oh my, the third...well lets get at it.
Not sure how things went down from a timing stand point but lets look at the scoring,Eacjh team traded goals in this period with Keven Pittman grabbing two from Mark Duggan and JD Crossley while the titans added markers from Trevor Mcguigan x 2 from Woody and Cross.
Unfortunately thats not all that was traded. There was some rough stuff that went on and as a result two guys got 5 minute majors. No one hurt so to speak although one guy has a dislocated finger. But the league is not happy about this crap and so we are dealing with it.
This one ended up with the Sabres staying undefeated by beating the Titans 9-6.
So let's get a few things clear. We are a fun league first, competitive second, dirty never! If you all can keep this in mind when you show up at the gym life will be much better here in the HFHL. No one is getting moved up, no one is getting paid more, no one will get a parade or streets named after them. You might meet some new people, break a sweat and get your name in lights here on the website, but make sure it's for the right reason.
Keep your hands to yourself, your stick in control at all times and play hard but not stupid.
The league will not tolerate fighting, stupid plays that might have a chance of injury or over zealous play that might endanger someone else. Some of you play hard, but not dirty. Thats ok as long as you make sure that it doesn't result in someone else getting hurt. Others play hard and it boarders dirty and that needs to stop. Now.
We will have suspensions coming for two players. If anything else happens with either one this season, they will be gone for the rest of the season and maybe longer.
We have zero tolerance for fighting, and although we will always evaluate the situation, we will never condone it and will always result in either being kicked from the league for good or at least the season or more.
Keep your hands to yourself. You don't have to punch someone to start trouble. This is whiffle ball hockey. It doesn't matter.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember, there is lots of crap going on in everyone's ;ives and this old world, so be good to one another. It might make a difference to someone.
Be well folks!
