Where Will The Chips fall - Week 10 Recap

April 18, 2017
Did someone say chips?! I'm all for that and if dey be fallen' I be there!
Oh, sorry got caught up in the headlines!
So this is Billy Concarney here with the final week recap. I know some of you have been on pins and needles just waiting to see where your team ended up, or if you won the scoring race, or if you thought you were the best goalie in the league...and so on, and so on and so on...
Well today is the day that you find out.
Week 10 had some drama attached in the form of who would clinch first over all, who would win the scoring race. Who would yell the loudest...who the heck cares.
So without any further wasted words, lets take a peek and see what went down for the last night of regular season.

First game we will look at was between the Fire and the Hackers.
The Fire were in first place but that could change if they lost tonight. With the Chill nipping at their heels, the Fire had their work cut out for them being down their fearless captain Rob "the Rhyno" Tyrrell and Matt "Hour Of" Power.
But the Hackers were missing the league proverbial bulldogs, Davey "Super" Cooper.  Let's what has transpired.
Ball dropped and both teams came out swinging. Tom Griffith grabbed the first goal off a pas from Gerard "Woody" Gouthro when he took a perfectly positioned snap shot into the top corner.
The Fire answered back when rookie Matt Reed slid one past Kane off a feed from Sam "Hali" Haliburton and it was all tied. The Hacks grabbed the next two goals but the Fire answered back with two of their own. Game all square at 3-3 after the first.
The second was pretty low key but the Hackers were able to notch tow more scoring the only goals of the period and took a 5-3 lead into the third.
The third saw the Fire throwing the most shots they had mustered, but unfortunate they could only grab one more goal. The Hackers were tenacious and added 4 goals in the third solidifying their win and sending the Fire into a possible second place finish.
Notables in this game were Shane "The Herb" Erb adding some spice to the Hackers with 4 goals this night. also Woody grabbed a goal and three helpers. For the Fire newbie Matt Reed capped off a first successful season grabbing two goals and a helper.
Hackers dominate the Fire by a score of 9-4

Next up we have the Chill visiting the Bulldogs. The Lynx were looking to end their season on a high note and the Chill were trying to grab that first place seeding through out the play offs.
This one was a show of goaltending as Tom Wynn and Paul Highmore gave both of their teams opportunities to win.
The Bulldogs came out quick taking a two goal lead but the Chill grabbed one at the end of the first to stay within striking distance. 2-1 Dogs after one.
The second saw the goalies stingy and each team traded a goal to head into the third with a 3-2 lead for the Dogs.
The third saw the Dogs come out and grab the first goal of the period but would it be enough? Not if you ask Kevin "Stinky" Shute. He took the game into his own hands yelling "Not on my watch!"
He single handedly took control and gave his team their shot at first place by scoring not one...but two magnificent goals that were worthy of TSN turning point honours. You know that thingy they do where Kevin Pillar always has the play of the night?
Well Kevin Shute would have dethroned him. Twice! Kevin Shute was just phenomenal. I want that guy to have my babies! (oops I think I got carried away)
Strike all that Mombo Jumbo crap. He got lucky ok. But none the less he gave his team first place by scoring a couple of flukey goals in the third to give them a tie.
This was a great game that ended up in a 4-4 tie thanks to two huge games by the goalies...and two flukey goals by Stink.
;-)
Notables for the Chill were Evan Canning who grabbed 1 goal and 2 helpers, and Kevin Shute who obviously got credited for goals he didn't score, who had two.
Mark Mcguigan had 2 goals and an assist for the Dogs. Great game all!

Our third game of the night saw the Lynx square off against the Slayers.
The Slayers have not had a stellar season but they are always in the hunt with Alex gale and JD running the show.
The Lynx have benefited from the trade made early as Tony Joyce has come into to old time form adding points to every game he plays.
The first saw each team playing haphazardly and the goalies shone bright as Wynn, filling in for the regularly absent Boudreau, turned aside 16 of 17 shots while The Gargolye Burgoyne turned aside 14 of 15 shots as the first ended in a 1 all tie.
the second saw the Lynx break out scoring 4 goals before the Slayers stopped the bleeding so to speak with JD ripping a slapper off a pass from Ryan Milligan. Score is 5-2 Lynx after two.
the third saw the Slayers mount a comeback as they grabbed the first three goals of the period. But the Lynx answered back with two of their own. Milligan scored the last goal of the night as the Slayers pressured the Lynx, but they could get that last needs goal and lost by one.
Lynx take this game 7-6
Notable in this one were Alex Gale who had a "Hatty" and 2 assists while Tony Joyce grabbed two goals and Evan White scored 2 and added 2 helpers for a four point night.

Last game of the night saw the Titans meeting the Sabres. The Titans were down a few men but the Sabres were missing half of their team and the leagues top keeper Chris MacKinnon who was out with a lower body injury or something else.
The Sabres were relentless and with both Trevor Mcguigan and Gord Caines chasing the scoring title, this Titans were looking a bit shell shocked.
The goals came fast and furious. After one, the Sabres had a commanding 5-1 lead.
the second was no better to the might T's as the Sabres notched 6 more to the Titans one. Score is 11-2 after two.
The third saw the titans add two more goals to their total but the Sabres kept up the pressure and they added 4 more to their total. This one was simply a blood bath. Pretty hard to face off against the two top scorers in the league when they are on the floor for every minute.
It was a clean game with no penalties, but man it was a dominant show by the Sabres as they wanted to send a message to the rest of the league to say "don't you forget about us"
The night belonged to Gord Caines and Trevor Mcguigan.
Caines won his second consecutive scoring title as he grabbed 5 goals and 7 assists which also earned him this weeks Eastside Marions Player of the Week awards. Smoking' job Gord.
Honorable mention to Trevor Mcguigan who mounted his own attack tonight grabbing 8 goals and 2 helpers.
Monster game for the Sabres. Titans will have to regroup heading tin the play offs.
