LAN Hackers: The Rich get Richard

October 26, 2000
When LAN Hacker captain John Dulong smuggled Richard MacMillan away from the Lite-Sabres over the off-season, he was planning on bolstering up his defense on an already offensive-minded team. What he wasn't planning on was for MacMillan to break out of his offensive funk.

MacMillan not only broke out of his funk last night, he took his funk, threw it in the ghetto blaster, and boogied his way to 7 goals and 4 assists. In MacMillans previous 14 regular season games, he had accumulated a total of 7 goals.

As they often do in the ADC FHL, rumours ran rampant after MacMillan's performance. But after questioning several players and fans that witnessed the game, we can assure you that John Price did not bank 4 of the 7 goals off a variety of MacMillan's body parts.

Oh, and by the way, the Hackers beat the Chill 27-6 to remain undefeated. This may sound like a broken record, but the Hackers broke more records in their triumph. Shawn Currie added to his seasonal records for most goals and assists in a season, he tied the record for most goals in a game with 13, and broke the record for most game winning goals in a season with 4. John Price passed his absent teammate Steve Schumph for the record of most assists in a season as well as breaking the mark for most assists in a game with 9.

In the Tuesday game, the ADC Lynx halted a three game losing streak with a 22-16 win over the hapless Sunnysdale Slayers. Leading the way for the Lynx was recent website coverboy Greg Foran who tallied 10 goals and 4 assists. This high-scoring affair was notable for some highlight reel saves by goaltenders Peter Rankin and Barrie Harvey in the second and third periods. The first period was another story however, as the two teams combined for an eye-popping 19 goals.

The late game on Wednesday saw the Lite-Sabres meet the Keane Fire in a battle for second place. Both teams entered the contest with identical 3-2 records, however the Lite-Sabres had won the previous contest 12-4. A sub-less Sabres squad appeared to be cruising to victory again, opening up a comfortable margin after two periods of play. The Fire lit it up in the third period, beating Sabres' goaltender Chris McMaster six times, while closing the gap to a 2-goal deficit at one point. but the Sabres pulled away late, winning 13-9 led by six Steve Chiasson goals.

Leading the scoring attack for the Fire was Kevin Haddad, who exacted a bit of revenge on McMaster. McMaster had held Haddad to zero goals in their first meeting this year, only the second time that Haddad had been shutout. This time, Haddad did his homework. "I would have studied tapes of McMaster, but we never video tape our games," began Haddad, "so I printed a few still photos of Chris playing nets off the Internet, and made a little booklet out of them. I flipped the pages really fast so it looks like Chris is moving around. I studied that night and day."

Hey, whatever works.
