Halifax Floor Hockey LeagueThis is Billy Concarney here saying howwaya howwaya howwaya! I have been a sick boy for a few days so sorry for the delay.
This past week saw four teams square off for their chance to get to the Big Dance here at the HFHL. Let's take a look at what went down!
Our first game of the night was between the league dominant Slayers and the cinderella team Chill. Last week the Chill pulled off a big upset by beating the Hackers in a shoot out. The question was it possible for them to do it again? Well the answer is quite simply no, because once the Hackers lost they were out so there was no way they could play each other...oh well you know what I mean.
This game stayed close for the first period. Each team traded goals until the Chill went on the power play...and the Slayers JD stole the ball, danced around a D man and then undressed Kane for one of the season's prettiest goals of the year.
2-1 for the Slayers after 1.
Second period saw the wheels start to loosen as the Slayers came out strong scoring the first two goals of the period. But the Chill weren't going anywhere just yet as they responded with two of their own keeping it close...but that's all she wrote for the Chill.
Sparked by an unassisted tally from Trevor Wadden, while Johann was dancing all over Stephen Thorne in what will go down in history as the infamous "He stepped on my feet" play, and then followed up with another tally by Wadden when the Chill gave up their second short handed goal, the Slayers did not look back.
6-3 for the Slayers after 2.
Third was a wash. Slayers added three more and that was all she wrote! Chill finished a lack luster season but did pull off the big win in round one. Slayers were just too much to handle tonight and move on to the finals with a 10-3 win.
Notables for this game were Trevor Wadden with 2 goals and 3 helpers and JD who grabbed a hattie and two helpers.
The next semi is between the Fire and the Titans.
The titans have been high scoring this season and the Fire have been steady eddy so this could be a good one.
Game started off with a few huge saves from Chris MacKinnon but the Titans kept coming taking a 3-1 lead into the locker room after the first.
The second started with a goal from the Titans D-Man Wade Mullen but the Fire grabbed the next two keeping things close. Caines scored off a feed from Goodwin but the Fire's Gale Bros. Inc added two and this one was starting to lean towards an upset as the Fire took a two goal lead into the third. Fire up 6-4
The third saw the Titans machine start turning on all cylinders as they grabbed 6 goals in the third. MacKinnon is only human and could not shut the door on that powerful offence. Caines picked up a natural hattie and this one was see you later!
Titans come back to win 10-7 and move open to the finals.
Notables in the game were Scott Cross who grabbed 3 goals and 3 assists coupled with Good Caines 4 goals and 3 assists. Also Eric Gale grabbed a hat trick for the Fire.
Great season for the Fire this year!
We want to congratulate Good Caines for being this week's Eastside Mario's Player of the game! Way to go Good!
Remember folks, Eastside Mario's has been plenty good to our league over the past few seasons. It is important for us to make sure we get out and support Rod and his team. Take your family out to ESM tonight! Budda Boom Budda Bang Budda Bing!
So the finals are set. We have the 1st place Slayers facing the 2nd place Titans.
This should be a dany folks. Come on out and support your local refs! Because something tells me that they might be the true heroes in the finals! lol
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and be well folks!
