Halifax Floor Hockey LeagueFirst of all the league would like to bring to your attention that one of our longtime players suffered a broken finger this past week. It was from either a deliberate or uncontrolled stick but none the less it was not necessary. We are trying to find ways to simmer some of you fiesta guys down. There may be rule changes aimed at doing just that, but we are always open to any suggestions.
The play off match ups would be formed as a result of many of the games last night, so lets get a quick look.
Titans 7 vs Fire 0
This was a great game. Chris MacKinnon made some huge saves early and often to keep his guys in the game. The Titans fire power was just too much though and there was magic between the pipes at the other end...and no we don't mean Johnson! Mike DeGrace did what only a select few have ever done...he recorded a shut out. That will earn Mike this weeks Eastside marries Player of the Week awards. Great job Mike!
Other notables were Gord Caines...who in his rookie year clinched the scoring race. Great showing Gord! Good had 3 goals and a helper this past Monday. Also Shawn Goodwin grabbed 2 goals and a helper.
Titans win and get ready to face the Bulldogs in the first round
Slayers 10 vs Sabres 8
Craig Burgoyne faced a barrage of shots in this one totalling 63! the unfortunate part was that the Slayers got 10 by him. The Sabres showed some fight by keeping this one tight but the Slayers were just too much. The stars in this game were Colin Waugh who recorded 5 goals while Trevor Mcguigan grabbed 6 points in 2 gaols and 4 assists. Great job guys.
The Slayer finish in 1st and there will be a rematch next week in round one.
Bulldogs 7 vs Hackers 7
So the Dogs served notice that they aren't out of anything just yet. They fought hard and showed some zip and zing by matching the Hackers and without a key part of their offence. Unfortunately in the battle, they have lost one of their top players in Jeff Sheppard who left the game with an upper body injury. Sources say he may not be back at all. Lets hope all things heal and he does make it back.
Shiners for this game were Dave Cooper with a hat trick and a helper and then surprise surprise Matt Seto grabbed his first career hat trick while Dogs captain scored two and added 3 assists.
The Hackers will face off against the Chill in a much up from last years finals.
Chill 6 vs Lynx 7
The Lynx moved up the ladder with a win tonight against their arch rivals the Chill...ok well maybe not their rivals but it sounded good right? Lynx captain James Griffin allwood no plastic led the way for his team with 4 goals and an assist while Chad Banks recorded a hat trick and a helper for the Chill.
The Lynx will face the Fire in round one. These teams finished tied for the season with the Fire just edging the Lynx in the standings by virtue of one more win. This should be a great match up.
So thats the end of the year.
The honours got to Gordon Caines for taking both rookie of the year (which we really dont acknowledge) and by leading the way in scoring with 51 points
Top goalie went to Chris MacKinnon who is no stranger to this award.
Way to go gents
