Slayers vs Bulldogs
This was a second test for the Slayers, who on paper are not the strongest team in the league this season. After pulling off a close victory last week against the mighty Titans, they had more to prove as they faced the Bulldogs.
The Dogs, led by Trevor "the Law Man" McGuigan, were looking for their second win of this young season. Once again without their goalie Boom Boom Boudreau, they dipped into the well and pulled out one Chris "The Big C" MacKinnon to fill in between the pipes. Not a bad addition to any team.
Well this game was nothing too exciting. The Slayers dominated the play firing 51` shots at MacKinnon who played a great game. While at the other end of the court Marty "the Party" Kane faced only 32 shots with little trouble. The Slayers were led by Phyl "The Surprise" La Ferriere who had 2 goals and a helper.
Kane, passed a league milestone by picking up his 200th win of his HFHL career. What to go big guy!
The Slayers dumped the Dogs 4-1
Chill vs Titans
The Chill and the Titans were both coming off of close losses last week and wanted to turn things around with a W. Both teams had their full roster there and so this one was ready to roll.
Larry "The Northbrook Kid" Harris started the scoring and after trading goals, the Chill scored two more and ended up with a 3-1 lead after the first.
Each team traded goals once again in the second until Kevin "I Can't" Shute scored on a feed from The Northbrook Kid Harris and after two this one was 6-3.
The third would see the Titans try and mount an attack, but the Chill held on and took this one 8-7. Notable for the Titans was Shaun "Goody Goody Yum Yum" Goodwin who picked up two goals and added two assists. Scott "Rocketsauce" Cross added two goals of his own for the Titans. The Titans will have to regroup and try to get on track for next week.
Hackers vs Sabres
Well the Sabres pulled off a trade last week that saw Evan "The Tv Star" Canning come over from the Titans for Peter "Run For The" Hiltz. Bruce "Rock" Hudson and Shanti "The Guru" Dogra also changed teams in the trade. Would this one be enough to take on the ruthless Hackers? Nope!
Led by Dave "I'm Super" Cooper, Roger "the Ninja" Keating and Bryce "Baby Face" Keating, the Hackers could not be stopped.
The score sheet was wayyyyyy to busy to even attempt to go play by play, but let's just loom at the highlights. Game wasn't too bad after the first period. Hackers led by one with a score of 3-2. All three goals coming from the Keating Clan.
Second period starts...and so does Cooper. He scores the first four goals of the period followed by Baby face's third goal of the night and the shellacking is under way!
So bring on the third...or not depending which team you are playing for. Chris "the Big C" MacKinnon, playing his second game, faced 61 shots own total and made some incredible saves while down at the other end, Tom "Get's The Easy" Wynn turned aside 29 of 33 to preserve his teams victory. But back to the scoring for the third...Cooper scored a bunch more, There Ninja appeared out of no where and picked on up...and the McGuigan Brothers teamed up to put one in for the Sabres.
so when the damage is all done, we are left with this to contemplate. Roger "The Ninja" Keating scored 2 goals and added 2 assists. Bryce "Baby Face" keating becomes the youngest player in league history to score a hat trick. he also added an assist. The the real story of this game was the shear dominance, oh and the really close resemblance between Cooper and Cameron, was Super Cooper's 10 point performance as he scored 7 goals and picked up three helpers. He was a machine...which is SOOOOO different from any other night...not! Dave's performance earns him the coveted Eastside Marios Player of the Week minors for week two. Way to go Dave!
Hackers waltz away with this one by a score of 13-4
Fire vs Lynx
Last game of the night folks. The Fire, still smouldering after last week dominating win over the Sabres, were looking to notch their second win in as many games this week. The Lynx were looking to get in form and pick up their first win of the season. Well this too was nothing too fancy. MacKinnon faced more shots against the Hackers then these two teams mustered combined! The Fire gave up the first goal of the game but then went on a tear and scored 5 in a row. Although the Lynx put in a valiant effort, the Fire just were too hot for these ferrel cats...Fire take this one by a score of 7-5
So we wanted to mention that we have a relationship with another similar league called Ball Star. Actually we have quite a few cross over player who play both leagues. They are a great bunch of guys over there. A few weeks back, they lost a dear member of the Ball Star family by the name of Frank Sullivan. He suffered a severe heart attack while playing ball hockey with his friends. His funeral was a testimony of how great man he was as there were easily 300 to 400 people in attendance.
In memory of Frank, and in support of Frank's family, the boys at Ball Star are putting together a tournament called the Frank Sullivan Memorial Tournament. It is a draft style tourney so you don't need a team. there will b lots of great prizes and most of all all proceeds will go to support Frank's family.
The HFHL would like to encourage you to check out the details at the Ball Star Hockey website @ www.ballstarhockey.ca
and consider registering for this tourney in support of a great cause.
In closing, and as a testament to Frank Sullivan's character, I want to encourage you all to be good to one another. Be the guy people want to see show up, not the guy people want to see leave.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and be well folks!
