Cookie Bryant Retires! Round 1 Recap

December 3, 2015
Whoa nilly! Where the heck is Billy?!
I'm over here...got sent to LA to report on Cookie's retirement...but I'm back now!
So hey ho and away we go...here is the quarter final recap.

First of all let's look at the Titans and the Sabres. This one, or so we thought, could have been a toss up...but enter one Scot "I'm Hot" Cross...
the Sabres came out strong taking an early 3-1 lead in the first...but then, in one of the leagues most dominating performances in recent years, Cross took the whole game on his broad shoulders and put on a clinic. he even had assists...yes that is right...Scott Cross had not one, not two not three but four assists! Has he turned over a new leaf? Naw...he must have hit some poor soul standing in front of the net and the got credit for the goal ;-)
After the first, this one was a wash. Cross scored 7 goals and as we stated so clearly earlier in the great piece of literature, added 4 helpers to amass a whopping 11 points on the Titan's 11 goals..Which earns him the Eastside Marios HFHL Player of the Week award...way to go Chewy!
Worth while to note that Peter Hiltz added his own "hatty" to the mix.
Titans dominate this one beating the Sabres 11-3.

The next game on the books was between the Hackers and the Fire. The Hackers were the heavy favourites coming into this one and they did not disappoint. The Hackers were too much for the Fire, who ended their disappointing season by losing by a score of 11-4 in the first round. Team captain and acting GM Rob "The Rhino" Tyrrell said he would be back with a vengeance in the 2016 A season. We will keep an eye on that for sure.
The Hackers were led by a parade of "Hatties" as Paul Chang, Dave Cooper and Tom Griffiths all picked up three goals. Shaun "Goody Goody Yum Yum" Goowin added 3 helpers as did Matt "I'm all that" Seto.
The Hackers move on into the semis to no one's surprise.

The Lynx faced off against the goalie less Bulldogs. As if the Bulldogs didn't already have a daunting task ahead of them, they had to dress their team Captain Adam "No Relation to Laura" Secord. This was going to a bit dicy lol.
Secord actually did not do half bad. But the Lynx were on the prowl and showed no mercy on the dogs...
Evan Canning grabbed the early lead and that was all she wrote. Canning scored 4 goals in the contest and added a helper. Not to be outdone, team Captain JD scored his own hate and added 3 helpers followed by Eric "the Cleric" Eisener who added 2 goals and 2 assists. This was clear dominance and despite being out shot, the Lynx were too much for the dogs who were sent home to end the season with their tails between their legs.
Team Captain and GM Adam Secord is poised to field a boss team, if he can get his picks right, after the ginormous trade made with the Titans late in the season.
Lynx take this one 14-5

Last game of the night is between the Slayers and the Chill. This one was the hardest one to call and really could have been anyone's game. But on this night...this one night in November, a hero emerged in the form of Jonathan "the Called" McLeod. McLeod had the game of his career and could not have picked a better time to bring it! He started the scoring and except for a lone wolf goal by Phil Rodgers, he tallied all the rest of his teams 6 goals. That's right folks...he scored 5 goals including the game winner late in the third. On the Slayers side, Doug "The Pug" Forrest scored 2 goals. This was the game we expected it to be and finished with a score of 6-5 in favour of the Chill.

So there you have it. After Monday's games, the next round is set.
The Hackers will host the Chill while the Titans will visit the Lynx.

The Titans have been a team that have dominated the third period and that is why they are such a force. They are loaded on the front end and have stellar goal tending in Chris McKinnon. The Lynx are no slouch as they field a fast as lightening team and have some fire power of their own. These two teams have split their regular season games this year. This should be a doozy...but will anyone be able to stop Cross's rampage? We will see Monday.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, the Hackers will take on the Chill. It will come down to goaltending in my opinion. Burgoyne and Boudreau each have the goods, it is just a matter of who will bring the best ones to this outing.

Well that is how it looked from here. I hope you all have a great rest of the week and please remember to register for the upcoming season!

This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember when you were a child nap time was punishment...now it is like a mini vacation!

be well folks!
