Half Way Home - week 5 recap

October 24, 2023
Hey there neighbours and friends! My name is Billy Concarney and I’m here to let you all know what went down at the PRCC Fish Bowl this past Monday.  So without any more delays and farting’ around…let’s get at it!

Chill vs Lynx

The Chill slid into town to face the Lynx for game one. The Chill have had a few player changes over the past weeks and this time the wheel landed on returning vet Aaron “Shaggy” Brown. The Lynx were trying to keep things rocking’ and Rolling.
Ball dropped and it didn’t take long for the Lynx to get on the board. Stu Whidden grabbed his first of the night on a rebound from a Dan Carver boomer. But the Chill answered back with two quick ones, one from Troy Winsor from Miller and then Chris Inness buried a pass from Troy. Stu Whidden then tied it up with a solo effort and we got a tie easily in the 1st…but the Chill took control from there when Troy Winsor gave them the lead on a pass from Alex Desousa followed by Rickie Miller from Mike Collier, which was followed by Chris Inness from Alex DeSousa, followed by a power play goal by Troy Winsor from Alex DeSousa. And after the 1st, the Chill were taking it to the Lynx by a score of 6-2.
The second started with Chris Inness getting his third of the game for a Hattie on a nice feed from Shane Erb. Lynx captain Stu Whidden grabbed his hat trick on a feed from Brett Dempsey. But the Chill added two more quick ones with Miller feathering a sweet pass to a streaking Troy Winsor followed by a top shelf cherry picker from the new addition Aaron Brown from Troy Winsor. Brett Dempsey scored his first of the night on a pass from Dan Carver but Shane Erb grabbed a nice hands goal from Alex DeSousa. Brett Dempsey picked up his second of the night on a pass from Eric Gale and that closed out the period. Chill leading 10-5 at this point.
The third saw these teams traded goals starting with Rickie Miller from Troy Winsor. Eric Gale answered back for the Lynx with a mighty blast coming off a pass from Sam Haliburton. Alex DeSousa added to his point totals with a nice slapper on a feed from Troy Winsor and the Lynx capped the games scoring with Stu Whidden picking up his fourth from Brett Dempsey. Chill dominate this one 12-7. Notables were Troy Winsor who had a season high 4 goals and 3 helpers. Nice game Troy

Sabres vs Fire

Well this one was the battle of the no shows as each team had 4 players aside. This was the second week in a row for the Sabres and was uncharacteristic for the Fire. So I did not actually see this one being played, but it went like this. First period…
Alex Gale with point 501 fromAdam Mackenzie. Matt Monk ripped a slapper blocker side from Jon Hunson. Bob was screened. Rob Pittman sniped a top corner rocket on a pass from Alex Gale. Monk ripped a slapper blocker side this time from Rylan Smith, Bob was screened. Rylan scored from Jonathan and the Jonathan Hunson tallied a Solo shot. 4-2/Sabres after first.
Second period…
Alex Gale starts thing off on a feed from Rob Pittman, Rob Tyrrell let us all know why he is the league’s all time scoring leader on a feed from Rob Pittman. Jonathan Hunson tallied again this time from Gord Fitzpatrick. Alex Gale teamed up with Adam Mackenzie once more, followed by Hunson from Smith and Smith from Matthew Monk. Hunson closed out the period with a rocket shot on a pass from Monk. 8-5 Sabres after two.
Third period…
Fire start things off with Adam Mackenzie scoring on a pass from Rob Tyrrell. Gord Fitzpatrick picked up a nice goal on a feed from Rylan Smith. Alex Gale scored two in a row, one from Adam Mackenzie and the second from Rob Tyrrell. Then Jonathan Hunson and Rylan Smith team up for two. Hunson with the first, Smith with the second. Alex Gale tops off the scoring in this one once again from Adam Mackenzie. Sabres outlast the Fire 11-9. Jason Boudreau faced 50 shots in this one and Bob Strum had 47. Notable in this game was everyone!

Slayers vs Hackers

Hackers have been tearing it up. Slayers are on a two game win streak.
You know what I hate…I hate 24 goals being scored in a game and being expected to name them all in this write up. I also hate Myles Raymond scoring a slap shot goal from the point. These are two things that should never happen in real life…but sadly, I can only control the write up part.
This was a great game. Lots of offence. Marty was singing his usual songs. Kevin Kennedy made some awesome saves. Geoff Briggs had 4 goals and 2 assists. Jeff Withers had 4 goals and a helper. Matt Strum had 5 goals and 2 assists. Jordan Castilloux had an awesome night with 2 goals and 4 assists. But in the end, the Slayers are now on a three game winning streak as they took this one 13-11.

This weeks Knapper Player of the Week is none other than Sabres Captain Jonathan Hunson. He finished the night with 5 goals and 3 assist for 8 points, way to go Jonathan.
So that’s it from here. Thanks for taking the time to go through this mess I try to call news.
Hope you all have a great night.

This is Billy Concarney saying so long, be strong, and stay safe and well everyone!
Bye for now!
