Sabres vs Fire
Sabres were short handed. Jason Boudreau faced 69 shots and the Fire were relentless. They scored fast and often tagging the Sabres for 17. Note worthy was Steve Combdon who had a career night grabbing 4 goals and 3 helpers.
Fire victory by a score of 17-5
Chill vs Lynx
Chill captain Rylan Smith made an impactful return but their keeper Adam Larder was out with a flu bug. This one was close but thanks to Stu Whidden, the Lynx kept pace with the lightning fast Chill forwards. Stu grabbed 6 goals in this one but in the dying minutes Rylan Smith took a body penalty with a bit of over exuberant play. This resulted in Shane Erb setting up Rob Tyrrell for a game winning power play goal giving the Lynx an 8-7 win. Thanks to Bob Strum for jumping in for Marty Kane after a knee injury took him out of the game.
Hackers vs Slayers
Ok, so this is an official note, that Joe Murphy is not aloud to have any fans present as it might prove detrimental to the play of opposing goalies. Joe came back to life in this one showing his old form as he tallied 5 goals and 2 assists. The Hackers stifled the Slayers offence and Dad Strum kept Son Strum from lighting it up. The 10-4 win puts the Hackers all alone in first place half way through the season.
That’s how the games looked last night.
Now for a more somber note…
It is with great sadness that the HFHL announces the passing of a former player in our league in Bruce Hudson. Although Bruce was not a regular fixture here in the HFHL, he was a loved and important member of The Ballstar League. Bruce played a huge part in their league and served as their writer extraordinaire and a friend to many. Bruce played 2 seasons in our league, but many of our participants knew him well. We share our condolences with Bruce’s immediate family and friends and would like to take this time to extend sympathies to the Ballstar Family as they mourn the loss of a friend.
We would also like to encourage you all to be mindful of each other in these challenging days. We all have stuff we carry with us and when we gather to play in a league like the HFHL, it is important to remember that there is a measure of fragility in every one’s life, so be kind and respectful of one another. I have witnessed quite a few instances of great sportsmanship this season, which does my heart good. But I have seen some ugly stuff as well. Just remember, it takes more effort to be a goof then it does to be kind.
Here’s hoping you all have a great week and remember…
In a world where you can be anything you want, be kind to someone…it might be just the thing that sees them through another day.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and be well folks.
