And So It Begins

September 15, 2015
In September of each year, a ritual takes place. Grown men...yes grown men, start a journey towards greatness. in all a small village of 72 start the trek, but in the end only 9 will remain. 9 jubilant grown men, battered, worn, exhausted yet jubilant. Why you ask? so they can fulfil their deep desire to hoist the coveted HFHL cup as league champions.
Thus starts the story of the HFHL 2015 B season. Thus starts the story of 9 grown, jubilant men. Stay tuned ladies and gents as each week we bring you a chapter in that story. Since this is the beginning...I guess it means that this will be...duh, duh, duhhhhhh duhhhhhhhhh....(in deep voice) Chapter One!

Hey ho everyone. My name is Billy Concarney and this is the week one recap. Enough of this star wars style into...let's get this party started!

Sabres vs Fire

So this was the debut of player/coach/GM Cory "the Story" Mcguigan. He was pretty confident after the draft and if you look on paper, he has every reason to be. Tonight he would face off against the Fire, led by returning league all time scoring great Rob "The Rhino" Tyrrell. He also had a smile on his face after draft night.
Well this game produced an unlikely hero...in the form of one Shane "The Pain" Erb. Last season Shane shed his old plastic stick and dawned a trusty Sabre, no pun intended, and he made short work of an unsuspecting Tom Wynn and the D of the Fire. Shane partnered with Alex Gale and the two reeked havoc as Erb scored 4 goals and had 5 assists while Gale scored 4 of his own and had 3 helpers.
Rookie Bruce "The Mighty" Hudson was a ray of light for the Fire scoring 2 goals and adding 2 assists. Outside of that, the Fire were nothing more than a puff of smoke in this one.
Sabres take this one by a score of 12-5

Slayers vs Lynx

The Lynx captain Jon Farnborough, or JD as he prefers, drafted youth and speed up front and age and beauty in the back end. The Slayers GM Johann "The Finnish Flash" Tienhaara was leased with his team as he managed to pick up some depth on the D side with Doug "The Pug" Forrest and had some speed of his own by fielding last years reigning scoring champ Ken Hiedman.
This game was back and forth. Harvey "the Bulldog" Snelgrove was making is first start in eons and he did not disappoint. He made some great saves and gave his team ever chance to win. At the other end, and the leagues oldest goalie, Marty "the Party" Kane was unbelievable as he made spectacular save after spectacular save to keep his team in the game.
the story in this game was character...that is what the Lynx showed as they trailed by two late in the third. With about a minute left they scored to bring themselves within one. with Kane out of the net, they put on the extra man and after a flurry of activity in front of the Slayers net, Eric "Bubba" Eisner scored by shoving the ball into the bottom corner and this one was tied...with 2 secs left. What a finish! What a game!
This one was tied 6-6

Hackers vs Chill

These two teams are wild cards. Both have some great talent and both play hard. This was also the closest game of the night. Both goalies, Craig "The gargoyle" Burgoyne and Jason "boom Boom" Boudreau played great. There was no real dominant force...until the last shift of the game. ever hear the name Paul "Bang Bang" Chang? Well you will remember it tonight! Chang single handedly gave his team the win by setting up Norm "Loud Mouth" Snook (he really isn't a loud mouth at all...but that was a bugs bunny line I stole) who scored two goals...and then Chang finished it off with a goal of his own. Way to go Paul!
Hackers take this game by a score of 5-3

Bulldogs vs Titans

Every season the league has a juggernaut. That team that is so dominant that other teams fear them. Goalies quiver in terror at the sound of their name. Well this season may not be any different, and if tonight's show by the Titans holds true, this ballstarian like team will be The force to contend with this season.
Led by Ryan "The Laoch" Milligan, who went on a tear scoring 4 goals and adding a helper, the titans made short work of the undermanned Bulldogs. Chris "Big C" MacKinnon did all he could to try and eep this one under control. But when a bucket of the colonel's finest has more legs than your bench, there ain't nothin' finger licking good going' on!
The Titans rocked the Bulldogs 11-4

So there you have it folks. The season has begun and lines are drawn. Who will take control? Tune in next week to read another Chapter in the HFHL 2015 B season saga.

Before we go, the league wants to once again thank Rod and the gang at Eastside Mario's in Bayers Lake for sponsoring our weekly ESM Player of the Week.
This weeks winner is Shane "The Pain" Erb. Congrats Shane! Make sure you see the league commish to pick up your award.

So, it is late and I am tired, so I must bi you good night.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember

There are three types of people in this world: those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who wonder what happened."

Be well folks!
