Welcome to the season wrap up for the 2014 A Season. I am Billy Concarney and this your HFHL report.
The season ended this past Monday and now we know what the play off picture is, but first let's take a peek at what went on this past week.
Too Cold To Handle
Chill 8 Lynx 6
The Lynx...a stealthily cat that roams the bush searching for small rodents and never phased by the cold...at least until "The Chill" came around. It proved too cold this week for the Lynx as they came out on fire. Preying on the hapless Chill by taking a 6 - 1 lead mid way through the second...but wait...what is that sound...it comes from high in the mountains...where man cannot venture, where the air is thin...just like Kevin "Stinky" Shutes new ugly shorts!!! It is the sound of a rushing wind...the kind that comes from a leprechaun like creature that wears a heavy wool toque when he plays. And what happens next...no one can explain.
It was like the Matrix...but for real! The Chill seemed to slow down time and move like a ghost, 1, 2, 3...no more, more they said...5, 6, 7 Unanswered goals! The come back for all the ages...well, not really but it was a come back for sure.
Not sure what really happened... but figured the theatrics were better than the truth in this case.
Chill clinch second place by beating the Lynx 8-6.
Nothing to be afraid of??
Hackers 5 Slayers 4
Well the Slayers have been in a tough spot all season wrong! Team Captain Johann "The Finnish Flash" Tienhaara took a big chance at the beginning of the season by drafting and trading his way to the most inexperienced team out there this season. But something happened a couple of weeks ago. A big win. One they never thought they would see. So coming into this game, they were riding a one game winning streak.
The Hackers, thus far undefeated, didn't expect any trouble from these guys. But boy oh boy were they wrong!
The Slayers were almost true to their name but the Hackers squeaked out a win late in the third. This was not the game that the Hackers were expecting. The Slayers brought it all and then some and put the fear of Higher Powers into the Hackers. Maybe this will give them something to think about heading into the play offs.
Worth whelk to note that the Hackers clinched first place on draft night.
A One Man Show
Titans 9 Fire 9
So in a preview for the first round match up, the Titans played the Fire and this proved to be a one man show.
This weeks Eastside Mario's Player of the Week, Alex "Captain Codroy" Gale single handedly proved to be the difference maker as he score 7 goals and added two assists to bring his team into a tie with the Fire.
Worth while to note that the Titans only had 3 regulars and picked up Roy "the Toy" Monk to round out their roster.
This will be a real head game for the Fire as they have really fizzled as of late. Team Captain Rob "The Rhino" Tyrrell has some challenges ahead of him to demotivate his team as they head into the Big Dance.
Ruff Ruff...Ruff Ruff
Bulldogs 13 Sabres 7
This is not the way the Sabres wanted to end their season. With hopes of avoiding the Hackers in the first round, they entered this game poised to move into second last place if they tied or won. But the Bulldogs would have none of that!
They were vicious and led by the likes of Steve "The Peeve" Thorne, who played a sweet game and deserves honourable mention for sure.
The Sabres will have to try and put together a strategy to deal with the one two three punch of the "Three Amigos" in Dave "Super" Cooper, Adam "I'm Gellin'" Schellenberg and Braden "Work Hard" Urquhart.
So the season ends and here is how everyone finished:
Hackers
Chill
Fire
Bulldogs
Lynx
Titans
Slayer
Sabres
Worth while to note that thanks to some real sleepy captains on draft night...the Hackers were undefeated!
The scoring race was won for the second season in a row by Adam Schellenberg. Way to go Adam!
The leading goalie was Mike "Baby Face" DeGrace.
So congrats boys! You all done good.
No we will post the play off schedule as soon as we have heard from the respective captains...so stay tuned.
Thanks for taking a peek and hope you have all had a great Easter Weekend.
I'm Billy Concarney saying so long and remember...
The greatest act of love that can ever be shown is for someone to lay down their life for a friend!
Be well folks!
