Halifax Floor Hockey LeagueHello Everyone.
First of all I want to thank all of you for playing this season. we did a bit of scrambleing and added quite a few new people, but at the end of the day we have our numbers and all is good. With the addition of new faces comes diefferent style of play. This is bound to happen and adds diversity to our league in both good and bad ways.
The league has operated for many years and the first priority is for us to have a fun yet competitive environment for some not so old to old guys to run, jump, yell and even score some nice goals along with some rather weak ones, but at the end of the day, to have fun. If you are new to the league then maybe you are not used to the expectations and that is understandable, as ball hockey often is a pretty aggresive sport. that being said, our league has no place for agressive behaviour. yes we will all get a bit worked up from time to time, but guys throwing sticks, using "school ground profanity", challenging another player to a fight or just being a total ash is not something we want to see in the league.
If your behaviour falls into any of the areas listed, then this is your warning to get a grip and start having some fun. We welcome anyone who is there for a good time and some healthy competition, but we don't want any goofy stuff. So clean it up and have some fun.
Another area of concern is the treatment of refs. Now, not everyone can or will ref. You might feel that a ref is not doing as good a job as you would like. That is fine. You may not agree with a call and might voice your opinion and that is fine. All this being said, refs do not get paid and are neccesary for us to have some sort of control over the testosterone that is flying around on the floor. In a perfect world, we wouldn't need refs, but we know that does not exist. If you are going overboard on a ref, that is not cool. You may not agree with theior calls, but we expect everyone to respect the job they do AND the calls they make. So please cool it guys.
So that's it for now. Billy Concarney will be back next week so that guys don't ahve to see ads for Batman style protective eyewear as endorsed by one of our fashionistas. And, for some reason my spell check isnt doing it's job...just like the ref that...oops, my bad.
Anyhow, be well everyone and lets go into Monday's games with a new attitude to win, loose or tei, but most of all to have fun whatever the outcome is.
