10 down and 3 to go! Week 10 recap

November 28, 2012
Hey there folks. This is Billy Concarny here and i'm getting ready to tell you about the way things finished up here in the HFHL 2012 "B" Regular season.
Ot was a pretty good one and it came down to the wire for a couple of teams, but seeing as how everyone makes the play offs...what matters right? Well lots for this season.
For the first time in league history, or at least since I can remember, the cross overs are out the window. The teams that finished highest get the seedings all the way through the play offs. That could mean home court advantage...but seeing as we only play at one location, that doesn't count.
anyhow, let's take a look at how the week played out.

Sabres Slice The Bull Dogs

well this was a pretty good game. For starters, Bull Dog captain Roger "The Dodger" Keating actually showed up...ok, well he played anyway. The Sabres were led by a relatively unknown in Nick "Oscar" Myers. This guys single handedly beat the Dogs by scoring twice, but he also set up 5 more in what was clearly his best game in his short HFHL career. When we asked Nick what made him play as he did he simply said...hot dogs....Oscar... Myer.... hot dogs. Tom "I'm Really Tired" Wynn faced another barrage of shots and stopped 54 of 64 shots. He is looking forward to the draft next season in hopes that someone will finally assign him to a team that will give him some support. The Sabres beat the Dogs 10-7.

Chill Put The Lynx on Ice

So Blair "Rockin' Chair" Hammond brought his best game of the season to this one. He had 33 shots and gave up 5, but made some pretty big saves to keep his boys in the game. The Chill wanted to prove that they are a force going into the play offs and this sort of made a statement...well sort of. The Lynx put up some pretty dismal numbers this season and this last game of the season didn't do them any favours. Matt "The Punk" Monk had better do some soul searching during the Christmas break. All things being equal, the Lynx have a great team on paper, but they are just missing that gel. The Chill took this one 12-5

Slayers Trump the Hackers

So the Hackers came into this one all but feared by most goalies in the league...but not Chris "The Lucky Siv" MacKinnon. Chris was too sick to worry about these guys. He just stood his ground and played a great game. Craig "The Gargoyle" Burgoyne played a great game of his own. He made some huge saves, especially shutting donw Scott "I'm Hot" Cross during a power play..one which was a little controversial. Seems that if you can clog up the middle on the Hackers, it shuts them down and they have a harder time. The Slayers didn't back down at all from the Hackers and it was kind of hard to tell who was the under dog in this one. Mike "Got A Penny" Megeny was the star for the Slayers in this one scoring 2 and setting up another.  The Slayers took this game 7-4.

Titans Finish The Fire

The Fire came into this one with a chance to secure third over all. They just had to win against a rag tag n]band of old guys. The Fire didn't back down from the league leading Titans. They actually had a lead a couple of time in the second. But the old men of the HFHL proved too much and a late garage of goals sent them into the win column. It was a typical game for the Titans who have been lean, mean and steady through out the year. It will be interesting how things will go for them in the play offs. The Fire had a pretty good season, but Rob "The Rhino" Tyrrell would have liked to see a bit more offence from his guys. The Titans took this game 9-5.

So this is how things finished.
Titans place first followed by the Hackers. the Slayers moved into third this last week and the Fire were close on their heels at fourth. The Sabres took fifth and the Bulldogs squeaked into sixth. The Chill managed to get a couple of more wins in the latter part of the season and this gave them seventh while the Lynx had to settle for last.
the play off picture looks like this.

Titans play Lynx
Hackers play Chill
Slayers play Bulldogs
Fire play Sabre

One thing to always remember...this is the new season. Anything can and will happen. we have seen it many times. The first round will be interesting to say the least. So remember to stay away from the booze and women this week and eat right and stay fit!

This is Billy Concarny saying so long and remember...you might have been the best during the regular season, but if you can't dance when the music plays...then go take some lessons!

Be well folks!
