Half Way Through! Week 5 recap

October 24, 2012
hey boys and girls of all ages...gather round while Billy tells ya' a tale you'll not long forget. It was a dark night in October...the 22nd to be exact, and everyone had gathered around the room. There was a kind of hush as a with a booming voice a rather large gentlemen waddled, yes I said waddled over to the center of the gym. who was this man you might ask, well it was none other than "The League Commissioner". The very words strike fear in the hearts of men and mice all over da' world! With a mighty voice he began to speak...
And that's all I'm tellin' ya! We ain't ear' to talk about old fat guys tellin' us a stooory is we! So get on wit' it you Billy of Concarney...on wit' it I say!
That was me best pirate imitation! Getting ready for the Hallow of Ween you know, yes the Hallow of Ween.
So here is what happened this week.
First of all we had a lecture from the big cheese himself telling us to keep our cool when things get hot. then we played some games. here is what happened with the games:

Titans vs Sabres

Both of these teams were raring to go, with one exception...the Titans keeper didn't get a warm up. well the Sabres weren't long testing him out and fired 18 shots at him during the first period alone. After the first the score was 2-1 for the Titans. The lone goal in the third was scored by the Sabres and all was even after two. The Sabres goalie Heath "The Beard" Matheson was on fire. He was ready to face the mighty Titans come the third. Well face them he did. the Titans threw everything at him firing 27 shots and this was the deciding factor. The Titans just proved once again that a bunch of old guys with smarts can play this game for ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever....
Titans win this one 6-3

Hackers vs Fire

Now this was a game. The Hackers and the Fire both played hard and at the end of it all they came out even. The Hackers were led by league new guy Corey "The Story" McGuigan who was on fire tonight notching 4 goals and a helper. Not to be out done, Fire captain sporting his new protective eye-ware from Gotham City Surplus, score 4 goals and a helper as well. Everything about this game came down to goaltending. Both goalies came up with some nice stops, but none nicer than the HUGE glove save that Matt "The Cat" Warnell came up with that seemed to turn this one around. It was the last shot of the game from the Fire that tied the game up.
This one went down in the books as an 8-8 draw.

Slayers vs Lynx

So  lynx is one of those silent cats. The ones that slink around and are a mere ghost at the best of times. A Slayer is one of those guys who catch the Lynx and cuts off their feet to sell for key chains in far off lands. Let's just say that the Lynx are missing a paw after this one. Chris "The Big C" MacKinnon or Chrissy as his friends call him...ok they don't but I do and it's typically when he has out played me, which is most of the time...ok I'll shut up now. Chris played a great game keeping his team in the game all the way through. At the other end Jason "Boom Boom" Boudreau was stellar but still his team is in the sellar...ooh yea baby, that was a goodie. The Lynx are having a tough time finding their rhythm but it's still early and they have a chance to make the play offs yet. This game was decided in the second when the Slayers outscored the Lynx 4-2 and that gave them the 2 goal lead they needed to win. The Slayers won this one 8-6.

Bulldogs vs Chill

Well, it's a known fact that Bulldogs have thin fur and don't do well in the cold...and baby, tonight it was FREEZING!
Neil "The Stiff" Cameron finally showed up and scored not 1, not 2, not 3 you know where I'm going with this right?! He banged in 7 goals tonight and for the second time this year, league veteran and still one of the top keepers in the league Tom "Didn't get the" Wynn took an 11 goal shellacking. Didn't help that the Dogs didn't have three of their key players. The Chill didn't need anyone but Cameron, who just kept saying "pass me another bullet John Boy" as he fired his guns all night long.
The Chill took this one 11-4. Worth while to note that the last time Wynn took this kind of beating, he recorded a shut out his next game. he'll bounce back, great keepers always do.

So that's what went down this past week folks.
I do want to extend our condolences to Shanti Dogra in the passing of his Mother. Keep him in your thoughts if you are so inclined.
Life is a journey. Sometimes it's hard and other times it's easier, but one thing for sure, you have to walk it and it's always better when you don't have to walk alone.
be well folks!
