The first game saw the highest offensive output this season as the Hackers trounced the Sabres 21-7. Leading the way for the Hackers was standout forward John Price, who netted 8 goals and added 2 assists. Taking the brunt of the Hackers' brute force was first-time Sabres goalie Richard Pickering. Pickering sported a bruised arm, a bruised leg and a bruised ego after the humbling contest. "Price deked me out so badly I got a two-minute minor for tripping myself", quipped an exhausted Pickering.
In the nightcap, a slightly undermanned Slayers squad surprised the formerly first-place Keane Fire, pounding them 13-2. The Fire scored the first goal of the game, on their first shot, but couldn't manage to beat Slayers backstop Paul Chui again until they scored the last goal of the game. In that stretch, Chui was stellar, stopping a whopping 42 straight shots and holding Fire superstar Kevin Haddad scoreless for the first time in his illustrious career. Leading the charge offensively for the Slayers was Kenzie Royal with 4 goals and 4 assists. Royal, who was outspoken about his release from the Lite-Sabres over the off-season, dedicated his performance, tongue-in-cheek, to Sabres captain Richard MacMillan. "Next week you're mine!" Royal shouted at MacMillan after the game. MacMillan has reportedly received various prank voice mail messages this season, and suggested (under the assurance of anonymity) that Royal was behind them.
