Two ties and a win Week Three Recap

September 24, 2019
So you know those award winning reporters, the ones who go into the depths of danger to tell you all about the horrors of this wicked world? Well that's not me! I'm Billy Concarney and this is your HFHL week 3 recap!

Sabres vs Slayers

Game one saw the Sabres visiting the Slayers. The Sabres have been underperforming so far while the Slayers have lived up to expectations as an offensive power. Ball drops and "BANG" Alex Gale strikes for the Slayers off a feed from Wade Mullen. Then "BANG" Alex Gale scores again this time from Joe Murphy. Quick two goal lead. But then Geoff Briggs scored his first of the night from Matt Mitchell. Then Wayne Hardy buried a pass from Kyle Bradbury to tie it up and we got ourselves a game people!
2-2 after the first.
The second saw the Slayers jump out again to a two goal lead as Ryan Sampson and Alex Gale each scored early. But Briggs scored his second followed by Sheamus MacDonald both from feeds by new guy Travis Burry. So after two periods, the Sabres have managed to stifle the machine and its 4-4 after two.
The last period saw the defensive game tighten up but Kyle Bradbury snuck in and roofed a backhander over the shoulder of Paul Highmore to take the lead. But with a couple of minutes left, Alex Gale grabbed his fourth goal of the night from Ryan Sampson and this was all tied up.
The Slayers had some huge opportunities in the last minute including a two on none with Gale and Murphy but Craig "The Gargoyle " Burgoyne shut the door and again two more times off of giveaways.
Both keepers played solid in this game and after the fat lady sang, it was a 5-5 tie. Great game folks!

Hackers vs Lynx

Next up was the Hackers rolling into the den to face the Lynx. The Lynx opened the scoring when Trevor McGuigan sniped a shot over the shoulder of Marty Kane. But the Hackers responded when Mike DeAdder scored on a scramble to tie it up. Paul Chang answered back and gave the Lynx another lead, but Johnathan Hunsor ripped a shot past Boudreau and after the first it was all square at 2 each.
The second saw Hacker new guy Jody Nickerson score the lone Goal from Mike DeAdder and after the second, this one was close with the Hackers holding a 3-2 lead.
The saw the Hackers go on a short but crucial spree as the scored three unanswered goals. Cooper, Hudson and McLeod all added to the total.
Lynx veteran Kevin Haddad added a late third period goal but the Hackers where just too much for the Lynx this night.
They win this one 6-3

Last matchup of the night was the Fire vs the Chill.
So, Chris Sampson was a top pick this season...and this is the reason why.
The first three goals were fast and furious and scored by none other than...Chris Sampson!!
Congrats on a natural hatty! So the Fire grabbed an early lead and were up three zip before Matt Strum answered back on a feed from Ryan Milligan. Score was 3-1 after the first.
The second saw the Chill draw first blood when Sebastian Hamel grabbed a nice goal from Milligan...assist number two.
Anil Snook then teamed up with Sampson and thus kept the Chill at bay. But Sebastian Hamel scored his second of the night off a feed from...yea you guessed it...Ryan Milligan...assist number 3!
This one was 4-3 for the Fire after the second.
The third saw a hobbling Scott Cross turn on the power when he blasted two slappers, one from Hamel and one from...Milligan, who recorded 4 helpers in this one. This gave the Chill their first lead of the game. But it was short lived as Jordan Castilloux Evened it up with a nice solo effort.
Chris Sampson grabbed his fourth of the night off a pass from Anil Snook and as time crept onward, it looked like the Fire had pulled this one off. But late game heroics prevail at times and tonight wasn't just on of those times.
Matt Strum worked hard in the corner and with just seconds left, feathered a nice pass to Cross who buried it to even this one up at 6 all and that's how it would end.

So that's all I got folks. This is Billy Concarney saying so long and be well!
