This is Billy Concarney here with another edition of the HFHL news.
so let's get crackin'!
The Old man and The "C"
Lynx 15 Fire 3
So this game marked the return of Blair "Rockin' Chair" Hammond and what a return it was. Posting a .912 save percentage, he shut down the Rhino-less fire and even at one point fell down and the ball hit his glove, it looked like a great save but those of us who have seen Blair play know better....ok, he did make a spectacular diving save early in the third. But guess what folks, this night the story was at the other end. Big "C" Chris MacKinnon stood tall and fell often as he faced a whopping 84 shots. That is more shots than some guys see in four games. Although he gave up 15, it is worth while to note that he did stand on his head and had he not played that well, the score would have been a little bit more, ok a lot more.
This marks the Fire's second loss in a row and may have Fire Captain Rob "The Rhino" Tyrrell thinking trade, but then again, the fact that he is thinking is quite impressive!
Sabres Dice The Hackers
Sabres 7 Hackers 5
This was a great game from the get go. The first couple of periods saw both goalies make some great stops Craig "the Gargoyle" Burgoyne played his first game for the Hackers and first game in his HFHL career and did pretty well. While at the other end Jason "Boom Boom" Boudreau played a solid game to give his team the win.
This game was not without controversy as hacker captain Dave "Super" Cooper took a bad gash near the eye as a result of a push from behind. This is something that the league frowns upon. We caught up with league Commisioner Johann Tienhaara and asked him how he felt about the incident. "Well, we don't want to see anyone get hurt, especially from reckless play, so we have informed the refs to tighten up on the shoves or body contact along the wall area. So let this be a warning to anyone who plays tough, we will not tolerate tough to the extreme that might endanger another player, so stop it right now...or else!"
Harsh words from a harsh man....
Titans Mind The Cold
Chill 6 Titans 4
Well this game for sure was a better effort for the Titans. After tying last week with a score of 14 all, they knew they had to tighten things up a bit in order to have any hope of picking up a win. But Wynn had other ideas. Yes that's right, Tommy "The Gun" Wynn brought his "A" game and he was the deciding factor in this one. he came up with some great saves to preserve the win for the Chill.
GM and Captain Adam "Wowwie" Cowie and his trusty side kick Tony "RE" Joyce teamed up to single handedly beat the Titans on the score sheet. Adam picked up the first three goals and an assist in the 3rd while Joyce picked up three helpers and a goal in the same period.
This was the kind of game that the TV guys have been waiting for. Something they could be proud to show if only they had remembered their cameras!
The Old man and the "C" part 2
Slayers 4 Bulldogs 1
Ok, same "C" in Chris MacKinnon...but different old man in Martin Kane. The Bulldogs were missing their rookie draft pick Heath "I Need A Shave" Matheson so they picked up MacKinnon in an effort to beat the Slayers. Little did they know that 84 shots later, MacKinnon would be exhausted coming into this game, but he still did himself proud. The Slayers were in top form showing skill and patience as they waited for their chances and then made them count when it mattered. No real standouts here folks. Kane wasn't tested very much as he faced only 25 shots. we asked him what he thought about the chances of facing the fewest shots for a goalie this year. "I like it for a change. I'm sure that as the season progresses and teams start to gel it will pick up, but right now, it's kind of cool watching the guys on my team put it all together. Sort of like a puzzle. yea, I bet they would be good at puzzles...and arts and crafts as well. I LOVE arts and crafts."
Thanks for the insight Kane...(Oh brother)
So there you have it folks. Nothing too dramatic but it was a great week in the HFHL.
Just a reminder to the newbs, three penalties and you are out. If there are any questions about this, ask your captains.
So that's how it looked from here.
I'm Billy Concarney saying so long and remember, If it looks like a fish, smells like a fish and moves like a fish, then it's probably Chris MacKinnon ;0)
Be well folks!
