Last Night Of The Regular Season Recap

December 8, 2011
Hey folks. Welcome to another addition of the Evening after the morning, after the morning after the morning after. This is Billy Concarney here to bring you the latest and the greatest from the world of HFHL sports.
This past Monday was the last game of the regular season and there really weren't any surprises. There were bad calls, no bench clearing brawls and short benches, but all in all it was what we thought it was...IT WAs WHAT WE THOUGHT IT WAS...(throws hat in exasperation...) IT WAS WHAT WE THOUGHT IT WAS! and no we ain't talking about da Bears. So enough of this foolishness. let's get on with the news.

Slayers Clinch First Place

Slayers 6   Hackers  3

So this was just another walk in the park for the Slayers as they sent out a message to the rest of the league that they are the number one team in the league this year. They took control in the second scoring 4 of their six goals and with the help of some really really really terrible, awful, horrible calls, the Hackers didn't have a chance. The Hackers players played a solid game but they have been having some trouble putting up the numbers this year. Worth noting that the Chill, who scored 87 goals this year, were one goal shy of doubling the team out put for the Hackers, who finished the year with 44 goals.  Chris MacKinnon finished the year as the league's top keeper with an impressive collection of stats. There is some speculation by a secret admirer that he will be drafted first next year breaking the string for Martin Kane.  We asked kane what he thought of that prospect.
"Well it's like this...there is nothing better I would like than to be drafted 3rd or 4th or even later. When you get picked first you ALWAYS have Richie Wanamaker on your team. Now I don't know what that means, but the guy who picks first always picks last as well. Maybe that has something to do with it, I don't know. But there haven't been too many seasons where me and Rich haven't been on the same team. maybe he's stalking me..."

Chill Dominate Yet Again

Chill 7    Lynx  3

So surprise surprise. The Chill whooped another team. the amazing thing about this game was that Matt Grove only had one point.
The Lynx really didn't show up for this. Literally. They had to borrow a goalie and a player. Last game of the year and they have three players show from their team. Do you think there might be some frustration showing in this camp? Greg Shrader scored a couple of beauty goals in this game. I even heard that they were slap shots. Pretty cool eh?
The Chill will be ready for any one and anything in the playoffs.

Sabres Suck Dogs Rock

Bulldogs 5  Sabres 4

Ok, so the first time you read this...and I know you keep coming back and reading this, I had the info wrong. The Sabres bit in this game and lost by one. Shane Hartt played great. Tom Played great. Johaan sucked. Blah, blah blah...score keeper was sleeping when he marked this one down, not my fault blah, blah, blah...was the defensmen's fault. Blah blah blah...
the end!

Fire Fizzles

Titans 12   Fire  9

So what do you get when you take three guys from one team, a goalie and a Secord? You get a win that's what you get. This is still a baffle to my mind, but so is everything else these days. The Titans showed up with a short bench again but it never stopped them from running the Fire into the ground. This by rights should have been no contest, but the Fire were just watching these guys run and Blair was ready for his chair a lot sooner than he had hoped. Dave Cooper had 6 goals and 2 assists to give his team the win. Nothing much to say for the Fire's side. The Titans could be a dark horse coming into the playoff if they can get everyone out for the games.

So that's it for regular season. The play offs will start on January 9th. This will give some teams a chance to heal up and be good and ready.
Other's will just prolong the agony and bide their time waiting for the slaughter. Anyhow, where ever you finished, you have at least one game left.

So we here at the HFHL just want to take a moment to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season. remember, enjoy the things you have been blessed with and share some cheer with someone who needs it.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long for 2011 and from my family to yours, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Blessings of the season to you all.
