Lows Highs and cranks

November 29, 2011

Well good day folks and welcome back to "The Morning After", the HFHL news report sponsored by "That League". If you can't make it in the HFHL...then maybe you could break away and play in "That League" (and no Ball Star brass, it's not you ;0)

So with out further delay, let's get started. The night saw quite a bit of everything. We had Low scoring games that actually looked like hockey games, well...if you weren't really watching anyhow. Then we had a football score with lots and lots of defence (yes I am being sarcastic) and then there was a cranky goalie...and no, it was not who you think it is! So here we go with the recaps:

Fast as Fast Can be...no you can't beat me!

Slayers  6   Bulldogs   1

The Bulldogs fired everything except the kitchen sink and Slayers netminder Chris MacKinnon but only managed to score one goal. Now, those of us who saw the game might say that he didn't do anything except fall on the ground and flop around, but then that would be a lie. So we won't say that. he made some big time saves. That's not to take away from Shane "The Stain" Hartt, who poured out his last name and play a heck of a game as well. The fire power on the Slayers was just too much for the B-Dogs to handle.Oh well, the one thing you can say about loosing in week 9 is "there's always next week"...but what happens after next week??? Chris MacKinnon took star of the game honors here tonight.

Rather a "Bland...ford" night

Fire   9   Lynx   3

So the Fire torched the toothless cats in this one. Blair "Rockin' Chair" Hammond could have brought a futon to this one as he faced only 23 shots. One of the lowest shot totals this reporter has seen. Jason "Boom Boom" Boudreau on the other hand faced 45 shots but just couldn't handle the heat that the Fire brought tonight...hey, that was a good one wasn't it! Long time "D" man Dave "The Save" Blandford took home player of the game honors by turning in a 2 goal and 3 assist night. For those of you who might be wondering were Dave got his nick name, it stems from his season stint and a keeper. That's right, Dave Blandofrd tried playing nets for a season, or part of it anyhow. And yes you guessed, he made a save, so this reporter thought it only right to tag him with the nickname, now you know...the rest of the story!

Finally a REAL hockey score

Hackers 4   Sabres  3

Ok, the Hackers are last place in the league. A real bunch of misfits. They have won one game all year. The Sabres spanked these guys the first time they met. Like 7 -3 or some score like that. The Hackers were without their three best offensive players, John Couch, Craig Beidler and Paul Connelly...but were they really without their best players...or did their best players show up tonight. The Sabres were relentless out shooting the Hackers 60 to 36. The key here was the Hackers. They played a smart game. No chasing guys around...maybe because they aren't a great running team, or is it because duh, duh, duh, duuuuuh...that they are just really really smart hockey players. Ok, they are slow, but tonight they played the best game of the year. Sabres keeper Tom Wynn was forced to make some key saves, but Kane...well Kane earned his 100th win tonight. His team rallied around him and played a solid game. Leigh McCormick scored his first HFHL goal, Greg Sullivan, or Sulli as his friends call him ( his team mates have to call him Greg) picked up a goal and two assists. Richie Wanamaker shut down Scott "Hot" Cross "Buns".  Adam Secord ran all night long and Phil "Over the Hill" Rodgers popped the winner. This was a real effort that payed big dividends. Player of the game in this was was the whole Hacker team.

Defense (clap clap) Defense awe shucks who am I kidding...

Chill 16  Titans  10

What the heck was that. With a score like this you would think you might see names like Michael Vic or Tom Brady...or maybe even Marsha Brady. But no, this game had names that are like an animal and a bunch of tress that bear fruit...or just a bunch of trees. Yes you guessed, Cowie, Grove and Forrest showed up big time and pulled the trigger hard and often to light up the short handed Titans like the parade of lights on a cold Saturday night. There were just too many goals to comment on and to tell you the truth, the player of the game in this one was the score keeper. Anyone who can stay on top of that mess deserves the award.

So there you have it folks, a big night. So now we want to take a moment to share part of a post game interview with one of our goalies.

Billy: So you seam like you aren't very happy tonight

Adam Cowie: Yea, we are going to hire someone to take out Jo....oops..wrong interview

Let's try this again.

Billy: So you aren't very happy right now

Goalie guy: No

Billy: Is it because you lost

Goalie guy: Maybe

Billy: I noticed that you did not even look at the other team while you were shaking hands

Goalie Guy: No wonder...have you looked at those guys. they are Butt Ugly

Billy: Yea but not as ugly as the game you just played

Goalie Guy: (Whack, kupow, whacko, thrash and kick to side of the head)

Billy: That concludes our interview

Tune in next time when we talk with Adam Cowie about his days as a silent film star

Billy: Hey Adam

Adam: ...

Billy: Are you going to say something

Adam: ...

It's sure to be an exciting interview

So there you have it folks. That is how it looked from here. We want to extend our sincerest best wishes to Gill Mombo who has finished up early for the year. Hope you are getting back at it as soon as can be.

So have a great week and remember...Johaan Tienhaara is a great commissioner, Rob Tyrrell can ref a whole game with his eyes closed and Gian Scalet can't even carry my stick! No he di-en' oh yes he di-id.

be well everyone!
