Titans Still Undefeated! Week 4 recap

October 25, 2011
Good day all and welcome back to another edition of "The Morning After". That wonderful time of day when you either wish the night before had never happened or you are smiling from ear to ear in anticipation of the next good thing.
The night was busy and saw some short benches as the HFHL finally got back after the lock out and restarted the quest for "Whiffle Ball Hockey's most coveted prize". You know the one. Yes that's right folks,  it's the HFHL Cup, the real deal, the best dressed and all that other stuff!
We also have quite a few regular season milestones to report on but let's take a look at the games played last night.

Last shot wins!!!
Bulldogs  10   Lynx 9

This was just a barrage of offense. Unlike most of the other games, it was pretty even too. It actually came down to two things, a last minute surge by the Lynx and a H-U-G-E  save by Bulldog rookie keeper Shane Hartt to give his team the win.
The third period saw 6 penalties called but no one capitalized on the power plays. It was a good game to watch.

Sabres Dose the Fire
Sabres 11  Fire 4

Long time veteran goalie Tom Wynn did exactly that as he faced 50 shots and turned in a big time performance to give his team a chance to take this game. The Fire, who are riddled with now shows and injuries, picked up league super star Adam "Don't have A" Cowie to give them a four man bench. It was pretty competitive until the third when the Sabres just ran the Fire into the ground, or should we say the Fire just burned out...
Sabres power forward Scott "I'm Hot" Cross scored his 100 regular season goal in his short HFHL carrier. Congrats Scott!

Slayers lose their first!
Chill 6  Slayers 4

Thsi was a test for the Slayers who had been riding the winning ways of their keeper Chris "I Still Can't Come Up With A Nick Name" MacKinnon. The Chill just proved to be too much for him and his team. Led by Adam Cowie and Matt Grove, the Chill had to pocket the last two goals in the third for the win. Slayer captain Barry Coolen recorded his 50th all time regular season goal in this one. Congrats Barry! Worth while to note that Mike MacInnis got called up from the Ball Star Hockey League to fill in for the missing John Rathbun, and play he did, even had some one else's gear and he was a difference maker. This was a great game played by two great teams...and I am one great reporter!

Titans Stay On Top
Titans 5  Hackers 5

The Mighty Titans came into this one sporting the best record in the league and despite  missing Jeff "My Arms Are Some Big" Shute and steady eddy "D" man Adam "Wheels in the souls of your shoes" Healy, they were still a force to reckon with.
The Hackers had their old...and we mean old...goalie Marty "Candy" kane back and he helped his team get a tie out of this one. Actually the game went back and forth until after giving up a bad play to give the Titans a lead, Phil Rogers blasted a shot from the point that navigated it's way through traffic to pick the top corner with just seconds to play giving his team the tie. There were some heated moments in this one that saw the boys get a bit chippy, but new comer ref extraordinaire Kevin Shute took things under control and made examples of any one whop stepped out of line. Great job their new guy ref!

So that was the story in short form for this week. Things that are worth noting:

Matt Clarke recorded his 100th career regular season goal earlier this season
Greg Shraeder scored the 100th regular season goal of his career last night
Titans are the only undefeated team left

Top scorers thus far
1 Adam Cowie
2 Dave "Super" Cooper
3 Matt "Orange" Grove
4 Jeff "I'm Going to" Townley
5 Roger "Ninja" Keating

Keep an eye out for:
Blair Hammond approaching 100 shots faced
Marty "Candy" Kane one win shy of 100 regular season wins
Craig Beidler is 4 goals shy of 100 regular season goals

Well there you have it boys, girls and self appointed heroes! Have a great week and come back next week for another edition of "the Morning After".
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember, time stands still for now one, but I saw some guys standing still for Neil "The Deale" Cameron last night!!!!! Also, there is a sale on Montreal Canadian hats almost anywhere in town these days..HA!
Be well folks!
