The Fire is Mightier Than the Swords

April 7, 2000
The new-look Keane Fire proved last night that they will be a force to be reckoned with this season. The Fire overwhelmed the Lite-Sabres 10-6 in the 2000A season's opening game. Led by veteran Fire forward Kevin Haddad's 6 points, the Fire were superior in both quality and quantity. Sporting a roster of 10 players, the Fire fired 55 shots on rookie Sabre goalie Chris McMaster. It was another team veteran, Peter Rinco, who equalled Haddad's game output of 6 points for the Lite-Sabres.

The deciding period in the game was the second, in which the Fire scored all 5 of the goals, turning a 2-2 tie into a 7-2 advantage. The Sabres mounted a furious comeback in the third period, drawing within one goal before finally succumbing to three unanswered Fire markers.

The second game of the evening saw the LAN Hackers put their 10-game winning streak on the line. The turning point of the game occurred when Hackers star John Price arrived in the building. Price easily led all scorers with 8 goals in a 13-6 Hackers victory.

The Hackers only weakness on this evening seemed to be in manpower. The Hackers picked up the services of league journeyman Don Abbott to complete their roster. Abbott, playing with his third team in three seasons, chipped with 2 goals and tons of hustle.

Next week: Sabres vs. Hackers; Slayers vs. Fire.
