Round one is done!

April 25, 2019
hey there folks. Is is Billy Concarnet here with a late week report on the first round.

Up first we had the Fire facing off against Lynx. This one saw the Lynx come out quick and they dominated the first scoring three unanswered goals and after the first, the Lynx had a commanding lead of 3-0
The second saw league longtime vet Anil Snook singlehandedly tie the game as he recorded a rare natural hat-trick to get the Fire back in the game. Matt Strum gave his team a lead but it was short lived as Mike DeAdder "drew" his team back into a tie with a late period goal. 4-4 after the second.
The third saw Dan Lopez give his team back the lead off a feed from Matt Strum. But Chris Sampson teamed up with James Griffin-Allwood for a short handed tally to tie it up. But that was short lived as Matt Strum took control and the lead when he buried a goal off of a pass from teammate Snook.
But once again, here come the Lynx storming back with a late game goal from Eric Gale to send this one into overtime.
But before this happened, there was a bit of a scrum involving Matt Strum who too exception to Mike DeAdder bumping his injured old man...I mean goalie.this sent Strum to the sin bin for a double minor.
The Fire managed to fend of the Lynx for the 4 minutes and then Strum came back on the floor like a mad man and scored  The winner. This one was a doozie and the Fire move into the semis.

The next game saw the Hackers hosting the Chill, the Chill had not had a great season even though they had a great team on paper. The Hackers were once again a dominant force and were intent on moving into the next round.
The ball dropped and the Chill struck first when Kyle Bayern ripped a wrist shot past Burgoyne to take the early lead. But Hackers captain Dave Cooper scored the next two to finish out the first and this gave the Hackers a two to one lead after one.
The second saw the Chill even it up as Kevin Haddad scored a quick unassisted goal. But Joe Murphy nad Dave Cooper scored to give the Hackers the lead one more. Score was four to two after the second.
The third saw Scott Cross bring his team within one with an early period goal but Cooper answered back to keep the lead at two. Cross scored again to draw within one, but a couple of questionable calls resulted in the Hackers scoring two power play goals and the Chill could not recover. They managed to score late in the game but the penalties sunk their chance of moving on. Sad but true...Hackers take this one seven to five.

Last game of the night saw the Slayers nad the Sabres facing off. The Slayers were without their goalie, Paul Highmore, who was off on a fancy dantsy trip someplace warm. Wayne Hardy stepped up and if nothing else looked the part. Seriously he was left high and dry on more than one occasion and under the circumstances played a decent game.
Not going to go through all the details but bottom line is that the Sabres took advantage and ended up winning this game thirteen to five.

For som reason my numbers aren't working so sorry for spelling it all out.

So the semis are set and it will see the Hackers hosting the Lynx, who advance by best plus minus in round one. They will play at eight o'clock this coming Monday.
The seven o'clock game will see the Fire hosting the Sabres and this one should be a good match up.

Be it known that the league has some issue with how rough some of the first round was and as a result, the second round will be called tighter for sure.

Well that's it for now. This is Billy Concarney saying so long and be well folks!
