Holy Heyzuez Murphy! Week 2 recap

January 22, 2019
well hello there neighbours! This is Billy Concarney here for a second week of our early 2019 A Season and Imma gonna tell you the story, the whole story...an' nutting' but da truth! So enough of this side show Bob stuff ( and no not you Mr Strum) let's get at er!

First game of the night saw the Lynx visiting the Chill. The Lynx had their full squad out tonight while the Chill were missing Gouthro and Healy.
So the game started and first on the board was the Lynx. they had some help from Shane "Got Some Hands" Erb, who made no mistake when left alone wit Kane. But wily ol' veteran come out of the dust Matt Clarke ripped a slapper top shelf t even it up. The Lynx however took the lead again when Alex Murphy fed a pass to a streaking Sebastian Hamel who poked one between the legs of Kane. maybe if Hamel had have kept his duds on this might not have happened, but it did and after the first, The Lynx were up 2-1
The second started with Matt Clarke scoring his second of the game with another hot wired laser to the top corner. But the Lynx kept pressing and this lead to a great scoring chance for Alex Murphy, who shot, grabbed his own rebound and then got absolutely robbed by Kane's glove...but then...Matt Monk took the ball behind the net and when he tried to pass it out shot it right off Chris Sampson who grabbed his first goal of the season without doing a darn thing! Monk quickly made up for his mistake by working like a lunatic to set up the timing goal that came from Kevin "I'm Bad" Haddad. Tie game. Enter Chris Sampson again, who scored another gimme off an errant miscommunication between kane and McGuigan...Lynx have the lead once more. But Scott "I'm Hot" Cross evened it up with a quick snap shot to the corner from Monk. But here comes that pesky Chris Sampson who finished his hat trick to end the period nd after two it was 5-4 for the Lynx.
The third period started and Sampson grabbed is fourth goal of the night ff a feed from Alex Murphy and this was not looking so good for the Chill. But these guys once again fought back and scored two unanswered goals to end the period and the this was all over, these two teams finished in a tie...6 all.
Notables are Chris "Scoring goals without trying" Sampson who had 4 tallies and for the Chill Matt Clarke had a hatty and a helper. great game boys!

Our second game of the night saw the Slayers travel to the Fire.
The Fire opened the scoring when Matt Strum put one in off a feed from Tommie Winsor. Then Myles Raymond grabbed a goal off a feed from Dan "The Man" Lopez. But the Slayers answered back when Mark Duggan ripped a nice one past Bob Strum off a feed from Alex Gale. Dan Lopez scored his first goal of the year when he and Raymond connected once more and Alex Gale scored an unassisted helper to keep things close, but ol' man Gill Mombo scored a nice and rare backhand goal off a feed from Strum and the Fire had a 4-2 lead after one.
the second was a quiet one with only two goals scored. Both from the Slayers as Alex Gale scored off a pass from Trevor Mcguigan and Mark Duggan scored his second of the game off a pass from Rob Tyrrell. The Slayers only managed to get 6 shots in the second, while etc Fire sent 15 towards Highmore. 4-4 after the second.
The third period was a hard fought battle and the Slayers Mark Duggan recorded a hat trick when he scored the first goal of the period from Alex Gale. But the Fire answered back when Tommie Winsor buried a Dan Lopez pass followed by Gill Mombo from Strum. This gave the lead to the Fire, but Slayers juggernaut Mark Duggan scores his fourth of the night from Gale and this is all tied up! what a game, what a game. This one would be a tight finish, but the Fire took the lead and kept it when Matt Strum grabbed the last goal of the night from a pass by Sean Fitzgerald...and thats what made the difference. The Slayers were again held to 6 shots in the third.
Slayers win this one 7-6 led by Matt Strum with a goal and an assist, while Duggan grabbed 4 goals for the Fire.

Last game of the night was between the Sabres and the Hackers.
The Sabres were without Ryan Milligan and captain Kyle Bradbury while the Hackers had a full bench.
The ball drops and A.J. Brown steps up and scores the first goal of the game unassisted. Then, he grabs two helpers when he passes to Ryan Sampson and then Troy Winsor and its 3 zip pretty quick. But the this new kid Joe "Aint So Slow" Murphy broke the silence for the Hackers and it was 3-1 after the first.
Joe decided to keep it going as the second started and he scored a second and third goal...whoa baby...a natural hatty!! and this was all tied. Paul Chang fresh out of hockey school then scored a goal to end the period and you could sense this one slipping away...4-3 after the second/
the third was all Hackers as they outscored the Sabres 5-1 with goals from Murphy, Chang, New guy Andy Comeau, chang and the Cooper...whie the Sabres git one from Troy Winsor.
This one showed some chinks in the armour for the Hackers, but the quickly turned it around and ended up dominating once more.
Joe "Ain't So Slow" Murphy grabbed 4 goals and 2 helpers to get his second HFHL Player of the Week honours. Way to go Joe! Paul Chang also had a hat trick in this one and Andy Comeau had a goal and a helper as well.
This one ended up 9-4 Hackers.

So there you have it ladies and germs! This is Billy Concarney saying so long and be well folks!
