week 10 recap and play-off picture

November 28, 2018
Hey Ho and away we go!
I'm Billy Concarney and this is your recap for week 10 here at the HFHL.

First up we look at the Hackers vs the Chill
The Hackers were in first place but with the Lynx and Slayers nipping at their heels. The Hackers had yet to lose a game this season and the odds were in their favour coming into this one.
The Chill were down 5 layers...so they get to pick someone up. This was Lynx captain James Griffin-Allwood, to round out Trevor McGuigan Kyle Bayern and Wade Mullen/ These guys could be in trouble.
And trouble it was. The Hackers scored first on their first shot. But the Chill answered with a couple of screen shots to take a brief lead. But then the Hackers had their second shot and this game was tied.
The Chill kept asking a man in front of the Hackers net and Highmore had little help back there, which low the Chill to rap 4 more goals in the first. Kane was very weak early on and gave up three on his first 7 shots. But the Chill held on to a 6-3 lead after the first.
The second saw the Chill score the only goal while Kane turned aside 19 shots to keep his boys in the lead.
7-3 after two for the Chill.
The third is always a strong period for the Hackers, but tonight was different. They seemed a bit out of sorts and he Chill kept taking advantage of their chances and before you knew it they were up 8-3. The Hackers mounted a bit of a comeback but too little to late as the Chill hung on and handed the Hackers there only loss of the regular season.
Chill take this one 8-5

Game number two saw the Lynx square off against the Slayers which would now be for first place.
Someone certainly told Matt Strum that this game emanate something because he came out on fire scoring a natural hat trick, followed by goals from Mark Duggan and Chris Sampson and just like that it was 5 zip after one Larder faced 26 shots in the first period!
The Lynx jumped out of the gate with a quick goals due to some hard work from Steve Combdon, but guess who scored??? Matty Strum, sounding like a sweetly tuned Gibson Le Paul, scored two more goals and was singlehandedly giving his team the top it needed to claim first place. the Lynx managed to grab a coupe of more goals but so did the Slayers and when it was all said and done, the Sayer claimed first place with an 8-3 thumping.

Last game saw the Sabres squaring off against the Fire.
Fire had a chance to move back into 4th place with a win, but they hd their work cut out for them.
Craig Burgoyne was out for this one and so Kane was forced to play a second time this night. First period sw the fire come out a blazing and they scored two quick goals t take an early lead.
The Sabres answered back with two of their won but the Fire took the lead back late in the third when Louis Brill shed a nice pass to Gerard Woody Gouthro for an easy tap in. 3-2 after the first fr the Fire
the second saw the sabres come ut and grab the lead with two goals, one from Erb off a pass from Haliburton and one on a power pay when Chris Woodford ripped a slapper home off a feed from Matty Monk. But that was short lived as Louis Brill scored a bang in goal to tie it up. 4-4 after the second.
The third period sae the Fire throw 17 shots at kane, and he stood tall on every one while the bares grabbed goals from Chris Woodford and then an empty netter on a power play by Shane Erb from Mike Gelinas.
Things gt ugly late in the game when the two captains, Rob Tyrrell and Johann Tienhara had a bit of a disagreement that went south real fast and as a result both were assessed 10 minute misconducts in the last 5 minutes making then ineligible for the first game of the play-offs. In the spirt of the league, they hugged it out at the end of the game and the world was right again.

So the night has shaped the playoff picture somewhat and the final standings are as follows:

1st Slayers
2nd Hackers
3rd Lynx
4th Chill
5th Fire
6th Sabres

So the playoff picture looks like this

7:00 Chill vs Lynx
8:00 Sabres vs Slayers
9:00 Fire vs Hackers

The winners move on. The fourth team moving on will be determined the following way:

First round play off game plus/minus
If still tied, the team who placed higher in the regular season will move on to the next round.

So thats how things looked.
Congrats to Alex gale, who was this seasons leading scorer with 43 pts
Top goalie donors go to Paul Highmore who posted an.855 save %
Great job guys.

just in closing, remember the spirit of the league folks. We all work the next day and none of you are moving on to the NHL or anywhere too exciting. Not saying this to burst bubbles but just so we keep thing in perspective.
This is meant to be fun and as we head into the playoffs, and people are looking to "win it all", lets remember that we don't need to do that at any cost.

This is Billy Concarney saying so long and have a great week. See you Monday!
