Takin' Fitz! week 5 recap

October 18, 2018
Well good day ladies and gents and welcome to a  much different Canada then before!
My name is Billy Concarey and I'm going to walk you through what happened this week in the HFHL.
So with out further ado, here she be!

Game 1 this Monday night saw the Chill facing off against the powerful Hackers. the Hackers were down three runners and a keeper. A big thanks to Adam "Crisco" Larder, who slid into place in Highmore's place to backstop the Hacks.
At the other end, the Chill were once again without their rugged "D" man Adam "I'm holding out Like Nylander" Healy, but the rest of the squad were ready to rumble!
The first period saw the Chill running around looking a wee bit confused as the Hackers grabbed the first two goals of the game. Kane faced 25 shots while the Chill could only muster 6. Score is 2-zip after one.
The second saw the Hackers capitalize 4 more times as they again peppered Kane with another 25 shots. But at least the Chill got on the score board when McGuigan grabbed a late period goal. Hackers dominating 6-1 after the second.
This game was poised to be just another dominant performance by the Hackers...but the Chill showed some pretty strong fight as they came out firing and grabbed the first two goals of the period. Down three, the Chill got caught missing their assignments and this allowed Sampson to score his second of the game to give the boys in white a 4 goal cushion. But sometimes cushions are soft...and the Chill hammered back grabbing the next three goals. Folks we got a game here...but along comes Cooper, as he has done game after game, season after season, with a back breaker...8-6. This one has to be over...But guess what, I ain't hearing no fat lady sing!
Chill captain Scott "I'm Hot" Cross ripped a shot from the point past Larder and the Chill draw within one. Kyle "In Style" Bayers notched his second goal of the game late in the period and the Chill pull off a classic style come back to finish with an 8-8 tie. Not too often someone would get excited about an 8 all game, but this one was a dandy!

Game 2 saw the Fire facing the struggling Sabres. The Fire came out with a short burst and grabbed the only two goals of the first, setting the tone for this one early. The second didn't have much more to offer as the Fire kept it coming grabbing 4 more to take a 6 goal lead. It wasn't until late in the period when a streaking Gelinas (Hey put them clothes back on!) roofed one on Boudreau to break his chance for the ever elusive shut out. This one has the Fire up 6-1 after 2.
The third saw the Sabres show some life. Backed by the gentle encouragement of their captain Johann T, they came out and scored the first two goals of the period getting themselves within 3.
But on a questionable call, Shane "Didn't Deserve that call" Erb, went to the sin bin for chirping on what he thought was an errant call. Did I say it was a bad call? oh...it was bad...
This gave the Fire the dreaded PP, on which Tom "Fiery Bird" Griffiths (yes...I know all you Halcon guys will be barking like...It's a Griffin and they aren't Fiery...but I needed to come up with something to try and make this mundane article exciting so cut me some slack!) scored his only of the night to secure the win. The Sabres still scored a late goal and actually won the third period. Maybe they can build on that heading into the next game. Big thanks to Bob "HoHum" Strum for jumping in and wrecking his stats for the year just to keep this league going...now thats sacrifice folks!
Fire take this one 7-4

Last game of the night saw the fast as fast can be Slayers facing off against the Lynx in what should be a great game. The only goal of the first period came from Matt "Boy of Bob" Strum off a feed from Greg Schrader and the Slayers start to assert total dominance once more? Yea...no....
The Lynx come out in the second exploiting some mediocre plays by Liam "The Liability" McLeod...well ok, he didn't make a bunch of mistakes but I just was dying to print that and so I did, because I can! Buwahahaha!!!!
Seriously, Griffin-Allwood ( and calm down Halcon boys...it's his real name, he isn't a giant wooden bird) grabbed a quick goal to start the second. Schrader answered back for the Slayers but Snook and Gale both added markers to pull away...not. JD, ripped a blast past Larder to keep it close and this one was tied 3-3 after the second.
So you remember when you read the title and it said "Taking Fitz", well this is where this comes in, although we should be saying giving Fitz, because on this night, at this gym, Sean "The Spazz" Fitzgerald was in a giving mood. He gave the ball to Alex Gale on two of his three goals in the period and also to the Big Giant Wooden Bird guy who scored his second of the game off a pass. The Lynx showed tonight that they can beat any undermanned team in this league in a dominating fashion. Are these guys for real? ( ask the Halcon guys I guess :) )
Lynx take this one 7-3.

So thats all I got...for this week. I hope you enjoyed this enlightening article...I'm going back to bed now.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and be well folks!!!
