Chui Buoys Slayers to Near Upset; Fire Alarms Sabr

November 26, 1999
It was perhaps the greatest single evening of floor hockey in the brief history of the AdcFhl.

The evening began with a supposed lopsided match-up between the undefeated LAN Hackers (read: Goliath) and the winless Sunnydale Slayers (read: David). Some may recall that these two teams squared off against each other in the season's first game. The final score of that game was 14-0 Hackers.

This game was another story however as the Slayers goaltender Paul Chui parried attack after Hacker attack. Up until this game, Chui had had a rather disappointing season. Gone this season were the games where Chui would almost single-handedly steal wins away from the other team. But it was the Chui of old who returned on this night, keeping the Slayers down by only 3 after two periods. Amazingly, the Slayers scored the first four goals of the third to take a 6-5 lead and sideline whispers of the word "miracle" became more and more audible. But the Hackers were not to be outdone on this night. Hackers goaltender John Dulong slammed the door shut on the Slayers, allowing John Price to score the winning goal. Final score: Hackers 7, Slayers 6.

The nightcap appeared to be another mismatch on paper. The last time the Lite-Sabres and the Keane Fire faced each other, the Sabres breezed to a 17-10 landslide. It was clear early in this game that it would be rough going for the Sabres. Midway through the first period the Fire had jumped to a 4-1 lead. The Sabres, realizing their season was on the line, brought out their 'A' game at this point, scoring 5 unanswered goals to end the period. After building a 9-5 lead, 3 quick Fire goals late in the second period cut the lead to one and gave them hope. But the Sabres pulled away in the third, led by rejuvenated forward Kenzie Royal, who led all scorers with 5 goals. The final margin of victory for the Sabres was 13-10 bringing about a rematch of last season's final. The Hackers beat the Sabres 14-4 in last season's deciding game.
