Leading the way for the Lynx was their inspirational leader, Glenn MacCulloch, who broke the game wide open with a natural hat-trick in the first period. Last year's scoring champion Mark LeBlanc had eight points, giving him 25 for the season, tied for top spot in the league with Slayer Tony Joyce.
Lynx rookie Mark Flinn had a career-best five goals, while Jason Royal and Matt Blades added 5 assists apiece for the Lynx in a winning cause.
Goaltender John Johnstone gave a valiant performance for the outmatched Fire, who spent the game under a constant barrage of high quality scoring chances. Joe Robson scored two of the Fire's four goals, while Kenzie Royal and Brian Elson tallied the others.
After the game, the press was quick to pin MacCulloch with the moniker "The Natural" in honour of his first period accomplishment. "All this attention is kind of nice," explained MacCulloch in the post-game press conference, "but I'd be lying if I told you I've never been compared to Robert Redford before."
Notes
