But enough of this small talk...lets look at what went down this past Monday.
This week marked the start of the cross overs. It appears at first glance that one division has a bit of a stinger flare than the other...but I ain't mentioning names.
First game we will look at is the Bulldogs vs the Lynx.
Barn burner game for sure. Easy 1st star in this game was Craig "The Gargoyle" Burgoyne, who faced 64 shots and turned aside 62. Pretty freaking impressive!
His team backed him up quite nicely as well. Not to mention one ahem...Kevin Hadda...who gets the goat honours award for ripping a shot from the corner right off his goalie and into his own net! Not fair...not fair at all.
James Griff scored a hat trick but Burgoyne was the star in this one. His performance earns him the HFHL Player Of The Week Honours. Way to go Craig!
Lynx scar the Dogs 7-2
Next up was the Slayers vs the Chill. Chill are still without their net minder Paul Highmore who its out with a lower body injury. They have still managed to keep things rolling along as they started this game off with 8 of the games first 9 goals. Hard for anyone to come back from that deficit. The Slayers mounted a short burst of a comer back but that was silenced soon enough.
Slayers have some work to do and maybe JD isn't through with the trades... Time will tell
Notables in this one were JD with a hat trick in a losing effort and Iain Arseneau who grabbed a goal and 2 assists.
Chill take this one 9-2
The next up saw the understaffed Sabres vs the Fire.
The Sabres had 4 players and a very wasted goalie for this one. They were in deep as they squared off against a new look Fire team that were hoping to win their second in a row. And win they did as they had to fight hard to beat the Sabres who turned in a valiant effort in a 5-4 loss.
Sean "I Got Marty's Number" Fitzgerald accounted for 4 of the Fire's 5 goals while Chris Innis grabbed 2 and had an assist in a losing effort.
Close one and the Sabres lose their first of the season.
Next up were the Hackers visiting the Titans. Titans were down their goalie Jason Boudreau who was nursing an upper body injury. Bob Strum jumped ito the fire and paid the price with a 12-3 shellacking that was entirely not his fault.
Let's face it, the Hackers are the highest scoring team in the league. They have the two top scoring players thus far this season and they are a force. Nothing against the titans, but every team but one so far has been dominated by the Hackers so far.
Chris Sampson grabbed two goals in a losing effort for the Titans while rookie sensation (it's in the genes boy...don't ever forget that) Matt Strum had 5 assist and Alex Gale scored 5 goals and added 2 helpers.
Hackers take this one 12-3
Titans thinking trades???
So thats it for this week.
I want to remind everyone the importance of guys stepping up.
This preseason when we were in a bind for players, one unsung hero went to work without request and recruited about 5 players, who I might add have been great additions to the league. This allowed us to go into draft night with actually a few extra on the waiting list. You know who you are and I want to thank you.
Also, we had another guy come up with a great new league logo. This will also lead to opportunities in the future where we may be able to have some merchandise available for purchase and the league is now looking at a one time fee increase to allow for the purchase of white and dark shirts for players with the league logo. It might not seem like much, but it is pretty huge when you think of it.
last but not least, be good to the goalies guys. I know sometimes we don't play the game we should, but I want everyone to know that most of them pull double duty at least once throughout the season. What does that mean? well it means that teams have goalies for their games. It's not just important to the team missing a goalie, but it matters to the team at the other end as well. So kudos to the guys who jump in when needed and even when they aren't asked.
Special props to Aaron Brown and Adam Larder. Wayyyy above and beyond guys and I want to say thank you publicly for
your efforts.
So thats this weeks write up. Sorry it's not too in-depth...but I have to go to work now!
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and be well folks!
